Forums - Sales - Hardware UP 4th Jan (Global Software up)

I'm not sure why people seem to think these Wii U sales are terrible... I mean, they're down about 50% over last week which is pretty consistent with every console except the Vita... So I'm not sure what else people were expecting. I think the numbers are fine. They're in line with last year's numbers, but I don't expect numbers to drop as quickly. Week 2 of January will be more telling. If sales drop to below 50K, then things are really bad.

The Wii U has a higher proportion of sales from Japan than any other hardware besides the Vita.  Week 1 is still a big sales week in Japan.  That is why the Vita and Wii U drops have been somewhat softer this week.  Next week will be down sharply in Japan which will have a larger effect on the Wii U (and Vita).

It had the biggest drop of all hardware in the US.  I'm too lazy to go through all the hardware in Europe, but it looks to have had one of the bigger drops there.

And is any of that not what we expected?  Nintendo generally has a higher than average holiday bump, and it's also not either a new console or under any supply constraints.  This is perfectly within expectations.  Obviously not amazing numbers, but nothing to change your opinion on the Wii U from last week.

Also i think these numbers puts some of the over zealous PS fans in their place regarding the outrageous predictions being made for end of March 2014.

How? Close to 300K with supply issue this week, at this pace 7 million is easy by march.,...Not saying it will, but your post makes no sense. Plsu japan launch is february.

7 million is not outrageous....

8 million certainly is. My post was meant for those people predicting ~8 million or more..considering that my post makes a lot of sense.

To add to that what makes you think PS4 sales will stay exactly the same from now until end of March? It will obviously go down the further we get away from holiday season and the further away we are from launch. Theres also going to be about a month period where the PS4 wont have big software titles coming out. All these factors impact sales, this will make it harder for them to reach 7 million. Based on the numbers we have now its a bit early to say 7 million is "easy" by March.

You also mentioned that supply issues is impacting sales, if thats the case and if demand remains the same as you predict it will then remain an issue until March.

There was one person who saids 8 million may be possible........most were saying 6-7 max. Which is well within reason. Japan will be a boost even if numbers slow down some. Then march wil be pretty big I think with Infamous, Drive club, the show.

so will wii and x fans shit bricks or just quit gaming if or should i say when it does just that.

I dont see what wii and xbox fans have to do with this. My post was directed at people predicting north of 8 million in this thread:

Hell some even predicted 9+ million...by end of March! Given the numbers that we have and the apparent manufacturing capacity  of Sony those predictions are certainly outrageous.

so thres no point in predicting.

they are and likely will sale as much as they can get on shelves.

I still dont see what Xbox and Wii fans have to do with my initial post?

Also making predictions is fun...but some people went a bit crazy with their PS4 predictions with nothing really to back it up.

People got hyped with how well ps4 was selling no big deal, time will show who was close or far off.

Thanks for the history lesson, appreciate it.

S'gonna be a brutal few months until games start releasing.  3DS should keep chugging along and Kirby will give it a helping hand, but for all the other consoles (aside from PS360 which should sell on library)... ehh.

I'm interested to see where the PS4 finds itself once it isn't so supply constrained.  I actually think it did pretty well this week, Europe especially.

Xbox One is also going to be interesting to watch when it releases in the remaining European countries.

Vita and Wii-U... both awful this week.  Vita is given its only semblance of "decent" by the Japanese figures and same for Wii-U.  I wonder if there's going to be any traction gained by the latter in the USA thanks to the new bundles.

The general expectation definitely wasn't down YoY.  At least before we got the week 1 Japanese numbers.  Most people seemed to expect fairly strong YoY growth.  I've even seen quite a few predictions putting Jan-Mar sales higher than Oct-Dec sales.

13 weeks and half to sell 3.8 million, that an average of around 290k a week with a japan launch thrown in the middle and the release of one of it's biggest titles of the year, sales still don't show the full demand of the system so slaes wont drop majorly any time soon. Explain why 8m is insane?
