nothing wrong with that. windows phone is growing slowly and Sony increasing their mobile sales. it would be a good fit and could help both grow. though sony should still have their main focus on andriod.

Why would anyone choose a more expensive Sony Windows Phone over a cheaper Xperia Android Phone? That's a dead end, don't understand why they even bother.

How do you know the Windows Phone is going to be more expensive?

Sony already has to pay Microsoft royalties for using Android, then Sony needs workers to tweak the interface and the OS and all that other stuff to run Android on it's Phones, Windows Phone basically comes in a box ready to be applied.

In-fact Microsoft earn's about 2 billion bucks a year off Android, it's actually more profitable than Windows Phone is.

As for Windows Phone itself it's a slick and responsive OS, the interface just works on a phone, the market could do with a major 3rd OS to compete against the likes of iOS and Android to help push innovation, Windows Phone is slowly getting there.

And additionally, why should a Windows Phone device be more expensive than an Android device? Especially regarding the update disaster which Android has to face and didn't accordingly by now. Every manufacturer has to keep big inhouse teams to develop updates for their phones (if they do) - it seems that with WP this process seems a little bit easier. And there is not as much competition with other devices running WP.

Well, in the end: If Sony thinks they can make money with selling WP-devices they will do so.

I don't but considering that Htc Windows Phone 8X and 8S retailed higher or at the same price than other flagship smartphones at the time, which had better specification like Galaxy S3 or even Htc One X, and both launched earlier, I don't see a scenario where a Sony WP costs less or packssimilar specs than a Xperia "Z2" and costs the same. (couldn't find a retail price of Samsung ACIV S Neo to compare Samsung's pricing of similar phones).

As for the 3rd player, I don't see a neccessity of another OS. You have 2 to keep themselves in check, plus in house competition of Android devices to keep consumer wallets happy. And please tell what innovation did WP bring, maybe I'm missing something here.

The question is why dont sony make their own mobile OS.
They already have done the hardest part which is set up a store, they have the sony entertainment network.
The development and maintenance cost of the OS would be covered by not paying google royalties for android, and they would make money from the SEN store, allowing them to compete better on hardware, like they do with consoles.

Patents. Nokia, Apple, Google, M$, they own a vast portfolio of mobile patents. They will be paying to use them or face lawsuits. No matter what they do, M$ will get a cut. So why not make your deal with the devil directly and be covered with their protection and maybe work a deal to get Windows cheaper on their PCs?
