For the longest time The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of TIme has generally been recognized as the greatest game of all time. So do you think this will ever change? What game do you think it will be?

Super MArio 64 is the greatest of all time (in 3D at least). Oot is in a way overrated. Still had no equal on its time.

Doesn't it have the highest Meta ever (99)? I can't see that being topped at least.

I'm not talking about your opinion of what the greatest is. That conversation could go on forever. I'm asking if the general consenus will ever change.

It would take something pretty remarkable. Nothing announced or thought of at this time seems close.

This is an interesting question. I asked a similar one when Vertigo passed Citizen Kane in 2012 on the Sight & Sound list.

The game I picked then was Half-Life 2, but I also think Super Metroid and Resident Evil 4 are strong candidates.

no game can dethrone OOT ever.

Why? Because if a game today gets 10/10 100% etc. it is a 1998's 8/10 80%.

So a game needs to get a 12.5/10 or 125% to be able to dethrone OOT. Since this is highly unlikely to ever happen OOT will be KING.

The problem is that many in the industry that write for games, review games, even all of us, consider OOT as the best Zelda and the best game. A certain amount of nostalgia is tied to it scewing views and opinions. No other game will ever be considered better just like many superb new films would never be considered better than Citizen Kane.

I don't even think it's that great. I've never completed it. I personally think Elite doesn't get enough respect.

Ocarina of Time is a great game, but it's been hyped to unattainable proportions. No game will ever match, or surpass, it simply because the love for Ocarina of Time has gotten out of control.
