maybe it helped, there is no way to prove that once again, but to say it revoluntionized gaming is nonesense especially since its already irrevelant,  how does helping the casual market  revloluntionized gaming, if it made gaming better, every single game would have it in a meaningful way, like the daul anlog, that something that revlotionized gaming or the first anlog on a console.

Diversifying gaming is making it better.

And dual analogue is garbage, ask any PC gamer worth their salt. It only sticks around because it's safe, conditioned comfort food, like McDonalds.

i have the same opinion on the wiimote especially for zelda, mario, and donkey kong which made the controls worse. you can thing it's garbage all you want it's still the most used form of gaming by far, for 3 generations already, where is the wii mote, its already being retired into oblivion.

Wiimote support is very common on Wii U, there is no sign they plan to retire it. And you're missing the whole point; the Wiimote was merely the vehicle for what the Wii achieved; broadening the demographic range of gaming.

And popularity doesn't mean something is any good. Justin Beiber, Twilight, and McDonalds are popular.

Is this really wrong though? Motion control, motion tracking, or whatever you want to call it, has been around since as long as a device has been able to take a visual reference and extrapolate movement from a device capable of transmitting useable data. Such devices have been around for at least 50 years, but the tech has never been so important as the experiences it enables. This is why the Wiimote will be remembered, and its contenders less so.

Not wrong, but the experience changes when the input is IR, gyroscope or accelerometers.

And I agree that people will remember Wii Sports first rather than Kinect Sports or... Move Sports? ... forgot the name.

Heeee, nice.

I accept the WiiU for what it is now. No point in complaining about what it could or couldn't be. It is what it is. I know this is a sales site but sometimes we spaz out like shareholders XD. Nintendo has to make do and make it profitable, learn, and improve. I do consider ita follow up to the Wii, just had poorly executed first year and ridiculous advertising. And yes, most of the blue ocean has definitely moved on.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Exactly. Why do some Nintenfans think Nintendo didnt want another Wii success and wilfully created the Wii U disaster? Nintendo THOUGHT Wii U would be a success, but the market thought otherwise.

They couldnt come up with a better idea than a 2nd screen for a home console, what other gimmick could they come up this time that wouldnt cost too much and be against Nintendos philosophy of cheap affordable hardware?

I actually enjoy using analog controls is MassEffect 3 on WiiU BTW. Activating powers on the gamepad is a big no no BTW. Played Mass Effect 2 on PC. Analogs aren't crap, just different. Waiting to see what the steam controller feels like

Well written OP, the philosophy behind Wii U was the same as Wii, and it has almost nothing in common with Gamecube other than (through 1 year) poor sales. The only thing I would disagree on is that the consumers that bought it have "moved on" to tablets and so on as they always say. Rather, I think there are several issues affecting it:

1. Wii was the first device to make motion controls popular. Very cool. Wii U is a "me too!" tablet. Not much buzz there.
2. Wii launched with Wii Sports (very appealing to non-Nintendo fans) and Zelda (huge core title), and with the awesome sounding Mario Galaxy announced and shown. Wii U had Nintendoland(for Nintendorks only) and MarioU(looks identical to every other Mario game), and 3DWorld only shown later and with a dud reveal. That's what we call a botched software launch.
3. Wii lost a lot of momentum when games ditched it for PS360 later in the gen when HDTVs became popular. Those consumers may look at Wii U as a step back and not forward.
4. I don't think a lot of Wii owners have "left" for tablets, but I do think a lot of new potential gamers are picking up tablets instead. iPads are the hot item for kids, and that means that a lot of the new generation of gamers that Wii picked up over the last decade are not quickly jumping on a game system.

It was a mix of both the Gamecube and Wii without any real direction or focus. It kept the Wii name (and added a "U" shaking my head) and kept motion controls for multiplayer or as an option in single player. But then you saw many of the niche type titles in 2013 similar to the Gamecube like Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 (the new Viewtiful Joe) and Windwaker HD (since millions already played the Gamecube version). Well, that didn't work, so they hurried a Wii Sports HD and are now trying to recreate a Wii like experience. I just hope they find a focus in 2014. Target families and Nintendo fans with a lower priced console than the big two, even if that means cutting the price to $250 or making the gamepad optional.

It's not a Wii. The Wii was about renouncing the traditional in order to expand their audience. The Wii U tries to play the best of both worlds by trying to balance tradition with new gameplay options and fails at doing either.

The people mentioning that Nintendo tried to keep the price down are suffering from severe selective memory as well. Wii U launched for $349.99, that's only $50 less than the PS4.

speaking of selective memory..

...wiiU launched at $299.99, that's only $50 more than the wii.

Careful now. if you try any harder, you might shit yourself.
