Forums - Gaming - Is Zelda the most scrutinized franchise in the Industry?

Sonic is

As others have touched on we Zelda fans are impossible to please. When "A Link Between Worlds" was announced I was over the moon and so happy. Yet I came on here and people grumbled how it was "backward" to follow up "A Link to the Past" and all Zelda games should be like "Ocarina of Time".

I do not envy Nintendo on this series which seems to get grumbled out despite being among the elite series over a 25 year span in terms of quality.

I am a Zelda fan but I seem to be on the minority in the fanbase. I actually like all the Zelda games! Every game in the franchise has it's strenght!

Except the CD-i ones... those really suck.

This!

I do believe that a lot of people overlooked SS due to the motion controls.

Very true! That game gets ahte for doing motion controls right. I actually liked the improved sword handling.

Maybe it had some issues with it's slow start but it definitely gets better the more you play!

The search bug thing handled horribly with motion controls.

Who in the world quoted me? A phantom quoter in out midst, is there?

You wouldn't know it talking to Zelda fans. The ones I know who love the series have said Skyward Sword is either shit or they couldn't even finish it (I'm talking about you Zucas).

Just wait till the next iteration. Skyward Sword will then become the shit. Just like with Twilight Princess... and Wind Waker...

True fact!

and now I am the one who hath quoted you.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Ah, so you're the Phantom Quoter.

And indeedy it is. I wonder why new iterations in the franchise are always pummeled and then after while loved. Nostalgia?

It has it easier than most games actually. A lot of reviewers score them based on nostalgia. Something a game like, say Titanfall won't have.

That doesn't mean it has it easier at all, really.  A lot of reviewers today idealize the previous game entries and lower a score for not living up to their nostalgic memories.  There's a very very good example of this nostalgia working against a game in some of the reviews for A Link Between Worlds.

In fact, here's the one I'm talking about:
A Link Between Worlds' main problem at the end of the day is a complete lack of anything that's memorable. There's no defining moment, no newly minted classic villains or characters, and no truly "new" items that make their mark on the series. It's certainly playable in every sense of the word, but I didn't feel the same spark I had felt so many times before.

Yet it holds a 91/100 in Metacritic!

I think it is a tie between Zelda, Sonic and Final Fantasy.

With Zelda and Final Fantasy having it the worst.
