The consoles as we know it will change forever after this generation. Didn't you see Sony's conference yesterday?
All SONY games are coming to many devices including TV.
The future as I see it will be based on TV gaming console. So you buy a TV with no gaming option or a TV with gaming option which include 1-2 TB storage and a Joystick.
Console will just vanish next generation.

Its to have an easy name for all future Xbox systems with BC to play all games as far back as Xbox ONE physically & digitally. TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE. Its full proof easiness. |
Thats really why u think they named it Xbox One?
They named it that because they want it to become an all in ONE multimedia device.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
When will people realize that Sony is the ONLY company to ever name their consoles by Chronological number. Xbox One is named the way it is because of its description: All in One Entertainment System. Other consoles are usually named by their descriptions too, hell Xbox is called that because of DirectX. It was supposed to be the DirectXbox.
No, when they say they will support a console for 10 years it doesn't mean they won't release any other console for 10 years.
And if you're in the mood for silly predictions, I think the next Xbox should be released next year, named XBOX 1S (for Same), with a minor CPU improvement and gold case color option for China market, and also an XBOX 1C (for Cheap) which will come without Kinect and in an assortment of candy colors.

I simply don't agree. I believe it's too late to start enumerating xbox. They chose ONE because 1 is esteemed. "We're #1", "airforce one", "one ring to rule them all", etc. If i had to guess i would say they will choose something classy. Something with prestige. Like: XBOX Platinum, or something sciency.
I think they could call a redesign XBOX TWO. Possibly a model with out an optical drive. They did make phones called kin one and kin two. They were basically the same just different designs.

This. I'll add that MS and Sony said the PS3 and 360 also were going to have 10 years of support when they launched, that means they would have new games still after 10 years, but a new console is always going to come inbetween all these games for the old system.
Yep.

10 years plus 2013 = year 2K23
At your second paragraph, then what would stop PlayStation & Xbox from going purely 3rd Party in the form of Apps on TVs & PCs & Phones & Tablets? |
They also said that about PS360. Supports ends a few years after the new consoles are already out.
Well a lot of things could stop that. Other consumer hardware not potent enough, emerging new players in those markets that would make it difficult, consumers not being ready to commit to digital. Sony and MS may already be thinking about the next generation but they don't even know what exactly will work in 6-7 years. The entertainment industry is still in rapid progress from the whole smart devices boom.
