He's the CEO, what else is he going to say?

"Hey guys, our new console sucks, don't buy it"?

Around the Network

- Release big console to much fanfare/sales

- Make console redundant a few months later by announcing cloud service that can play exclusives on any device...

It plays PS3 games, not PS4 games.  So your second point is incorrect.

What is stopping it from playing PS4 games? Sony's decision?

If it can stream PS3 games, then PS4 is certainly NOT out of the question....

THey'd end up cannibalizing their own sales if they did that. I'm pretty sure that Sony would rather have someone buy a Ps4 than a subscription to PSnow

Why?

This just reinforces my argument that PS4 was Sony's "safety net", in case cloud streaming somehow failed (of course, this does not count for all regions..). Software is MUCH more profitable than hardware (especially costs associated with R&D each generation). Cloud also gives unprecedented extra control over publishing rights (I'm not saying that's a good thing, I'm saying I see all corporations choosing that path).

As much as my inner fanboy hates to say this, if Kaz says so, it is the truth.

Undeniable logic.

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Sony could make PS4 games available through Playstation Now on any platform for a US$ 200,00 initial signing and US$ 50,00 maintenance of PSN+ plus the cost of the game... don't think many would bite that.

That would be because of stupid business practise.

You're not going to find anybody willing to pay for an initial signing to a nonphyiscal service. Just have a monthly fee...

While i get what you're saying, if Sony thought they could have made more money by going to Cloud-based system, i'm sure they would have fully implemented that instead of the Ps4 we have now. Also with PSnow, They'll probably have Ps++ (or some other moniker), that gives the subscriber access to multiplayer, free games, and the huge back catalog they've built up over the last 20 years.

And Sony won't release PS4 games outside PS4 so that was just a way to say it won't happen.

Like I said, they'd have seen the reason to build a PS4 as a fallback. For starters, not every country will be able to stream gaming content. That requires internet with decent latency.

It could explain why it took so long for either Sony or Microsoft to announce this gen (longer than usual), because they were weighing up their options.

I'd say PSNow will incorporate PS+ functionality (not fully, but it will be similar). Multiplayer games will just be one massive server instance with multiple views transmitted to players, which will eliminate a lot of crosstalk between instances of games, as well as eliminate cheating.

And you're basing this on what, exactly?

If there's more money/ greater control  involved Sony will not stop doing something just because you say they wont...
