For me it has to be FF12, i don't really know why people never talk about it but i spent like 120 hours on the game because there were so many side quest and things to do and the combat system was new and fun for a final fantasy game. Hopefully Square enix remakes this game one day.

my 2nd favee FF behind X. Ive spent over 120 hours on it and never beat Omega Mk XII or Yiazmat along with many other side quests. It was such a large game no wonder it took so long to make. If they do go through with an HD remake I will definitely be going for the 100%

Should start a topic that asks, if Final Fantasy 7 is your favorite, how many Final Fantasy games have you played before FF7 and what games were they? Also did you play FF7 before all the hype or after you were influenced from other people that it was the best RPG.

Not the best RPG in my opinion or even the best FInal Fantasy.  If people played more than just the popular JRPGs then possible that they might think otherwise as well.

Pretty much this. Usually people who like Vii best are the oney that haven't played many other JRPGS or FFs for that matter. I pretty much predicted that VI and X will be the highest on the list because they are the next biggest hyped.

Funny thing, Vi, VII and X aren't even in my top 5 of FF games.

And Square made 7 to rule them all.

I really think that all those people that like 9 so much are clueless.
And Final Fantasy Tactics is my vote after 7.

Care to explain why FFIX fans are clueless?

Cluesless is probably not the right word for all the 9 fans, sorry for that.

About number 9.
Others have already written it down:

"GameSpot noted that the learning curve is easily grasped, and that the ability system is not as complex as in Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy VIII. IGN disliked the lengthy combat pace and the repeated battles, describing it as "aggravating", and RPGFan felt the Trance system to be ineffective as the meter buildup is slow and unpredictable, with characters Trancing just before the enemy is killed.

Critics acknowledged that the overall storyline was mainly built upon elements found in previous Final Fantasy installments, such as evil empires and enigmatic villains. The main villain was considered by GameSpot to be the least threatening in the series."

I agree.
After the endlessly customizable materia-system with which you can create any job-class and any hybrid job-class and the very customizable system in 8 where you can brilliantly equip magic to your stats and defense and offense performance and basically create "armor" with magic. The 9 system is really missing depth.

It does have strong points this game.

I like the overal experience on the first continent.
The chocobo digging game is great too.
There are just too many other rpgs i see that do many things much better.

"Allegedly Square internally debated if Final Fantasy IX should have been released as a main series title or as a side story. The concern seems valid, because at times, the way Final Fantasy IX encompasses all that has come before makes it feel as if it exists outside of the main series."

A friend of mine said once that the appeal of 9 might be highly based on its theme and setting. He might be right. If you take the game apart in sections of battle system, characters, story, on each section its outshined by many other games. But the theme and feel of the game give it something special though.

Sorry, but that isnt true at all.

FFVII is a really good game, FFVI is a similar game to FFVII except in 2D with a villain that has absolutely no motivation and is bad, just cause. FFX i agree it was boring for the most part. None of the other 2D FF's are worth anything. They are all grindy fests. FFVI and FFVII were the first ones that werent.

Actually, the Final fantasy series is not very good at all. It varies too much in quality and saw an upper spike of quality with VI, VII and IX. After that, it went back to beeing a boring series of games.

Honestly, i think the only reason one doesnt recognise the quality of FFVII is to try and be a hipster. :P If you rationaly analyse the content in the game, you should realise that theres nothing like it. Theres a big variety in gameplay, and quite a number of different mini-games, and optional activities. Where is chocobo racing in FF6, for example? The ammount of work on graphics, special effects and animation make FFVII the clear superior entry compared to FF6.

After that FF8 proceeded to drop the ball completely with a cast of bland characters and dumb story and boring draw mechanic. FF9 managed to get some of the spark back with an original fantasy world and unique characters, but it never hit the same stride as FF7 with the pace.

FF7 and FF9 are the highest points of the series. The rest, to be completely honest is passable. FFT though, isnt. It tells an engaging story with a deep combat system.

I wonder why some ppl didn't like FFX is there any other reason other than it didn't have world map because this is the only negative I can find about it everything else I like, I like the battle system, I like that the summons (Aeons) fight in your place & they have actual stats & skills, I like the amazing soundtrack I like the characters & their connection for example Yuna what is it that u can't like about her? or Auron who is I believe one of the most cool chars on any FF game, I like the amazing leveling system (Sphere Grid) where u can follow different paths & mold each char in the way u want, I like the countless amazing boss battles (Dark Aeons, Penance, Ultima etc) I love Blitzball which u don't only play on it but u also recruit players from all over the world, I like the world of Spira in general it's an amazing place & last I love the whole journey until the final battle & I love the END it was very emotional & imo there was no need for FFX-2 this game doesn't exist for me, the game END at the first game.
