Forums - General - Antidepressants almost ended my life; I was seeing things that weren't there

You shouldn't take drugs that aren't prescribed to you cause some of them can have very harmful effects.
Also, maybe you need to get some therapy or something to deal with your depression and let an actual psychologist see if you need any medication for your problem.

My cousin also had anxiety attacks before and the so-called experts also gave anti-depressants and he became more depress, literally! He was so hook at the medicine that I had to intervene twice to get him straight up. Thank God he listened and went back to Church and playing Basketball again.

So yeah it doesn't matter if the meds is prescribed or not, anti-depressants are like legal meth which has the same devastating effect on a person. Its better to focus on doing something like sports for example.

Anxiety is a learned response.  Medication isn't the way to overcome a learned response, addressing the anxiety inducing experience is.

Some people can have generalized anxiety, with no one experience inducing it.  Its just there all the time for no reason, or for everything.  while sometimes it can be treated well with therapy and learning to overcome that response,  it doesnt work with everyone and There are some good medications out there for treating it.   Any good physician would try non-medicated tactics first, and look to other options if it fails. (a good physician is REALLY hard to find..  I saw over 10 different ones before i was lucky enough to get my current GP.  He doesnt accept new patients but as I was married to one, So He let me become one).

Why would you go to a GP about anxiety?  I would think you'd go to a psychologist.

I trust my GP more, hes easier to get in to see, and he understands me alot better. Plus he is the one who prescribes my more important medication(stomach/digestive), and has helped track my progress over the years so we can figure out the best combination of sympton relief.   Every psychologist ive been to emediately tried putting me on a combination of benzo's(which i wont take, I know to many people whose lives have been ruined being addicted to these things, and i know what the withdrawl symptons are like) and then complains about my prescription MJ which ive had the prescription for stomach/digestive problems for like 10 years.   there are very few good psychologists in my area and my GP knows this.

after yers of treatment, therapy etc..  The thing that works best for me is an old tricyclic antidepressant that also helps me with IBS, and PHN.   1 small pill before bed each night and i am a normal person.
