Forums - Gaming - Wii U and X Box One is NOT next gen console...

Because they are CURRENT GEN CONSOLE together with the PS4....

who ever say that PS4, XBOXONE, or wii u is a next gen console should be fed to the puppies or stab to death with a marshmallow...

they are available now... so it means they are current....

Around the Network

The PS3 and 360 are still relevant platforms and will be for at least another year. It's just for the matter of clarity.

People always say next gen for awhile even after the new consoles start. Kind of like how we still say "the new year" after January 1st.

it is relevant... but their "next" in line replacement is out already... which makes ps4 and xbone one a CURRENT console.... so you think ps4 and x bone one should be refer as a next gen console?

it's entertaining how people redefined the word "generation" to fit their fanboy agendas.

I must admit, I was expecting something completely different based on the title..

I guess I agree..

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

I still consider them next-gen until the xbox 360/ps3 are pretty much irrelevant and a good portion of the people have moved on from them to the x1/ps4. Well, also when all the major devs/publishers have started to develop exclusively for the x1/ps4- none of those have happened yet, so to me, they're still next-gen.

But that's just how I see it.

i think the limit for new year is mmmm 31 days?

well it is still new technically and they say new year not new year day...

it is not like you buy something new... and the next day you cant call it new already

Current.... Both the Wii U and X1 are current...

The term "current" is a relative thing. Is the consoles "current" with the history of all humanity? Absolutely, since humanity started many millions of years ago... Are they "current" to industrialization? Absolutely, as industrialization started a few hundred years ago. Are they "current" to computing? Absolutely, microprocessor computing started over 50 years ago, so using tech that is 1-3 years old is still current.

Using PS4 specs as "current" is really saying "only the highest spec console is current". I applaud Sony for using the higher end of hardware to build their console, but using that as the measurement for "current" simply is ridiculous.

As for "next" as in "nextgen" The Wii U and X1 are clearly the "nextgen" consoles from their manufacturers as there is no forward compatibility (meaning stuff on Wii U and X1 does not run on either the Wii or X1 without recompiling a separate version).  Therefore the consoles are nextgen from their manufacturers.
