Forums - Sony - Sony killing online features for GT5 and Resistance 1-3 in March and May

Damn.......... i had better get busy with any remaining trophies i have for some of these ps3 exclusives.

Gran Turismo 5 going down is a GIANT kick in the balls though, no question about it.

Project Gotham Racing 3 is still up on LIVE, and that was a LAUNCH game from back in 2005.

Thats not very smart...especially GT5.

Shutting down GT5 is pretty sick. That game was still in the top 20 from time to time in some countries a few weeks or months ago. How can they shut that down? Sold probably 1m units this year and they kill the servers first half of next year? A game which so many people bought just recently and which has a 10m userbase...

Resistance 1 was was to expect. Not sure about Resistance 2 and 3 and if people still play them so that at least killing one of those two is probably also fine.

Either they are trying to use it as a method to convince GT5 gamers to buy GT6 or there aren't that many players online to justify paying for servers. Its most likely the first reason.

Isn't this what EA always does when they have new versions of the game out after a few years? Not surprising when they are not charging for their servers. To be fair, you can't expect things to be free and not expect costs to Sony.

Well, sports games die pretty much from alone with the new seasons so that it's not really a prob if EA is doing it with these games. But a racing game is something else. There is no season people care so much about to stop playing the game if the next eason starts. 1m people bought GT5 this year, that's more than most other games sell on a single console.

Not sure about other EA games if they have a decent amount of online players.

Expected, but a large reason why I would rather add a long single player game to my collection to play in 10 years then another CoD.

This here people is why I usually stick to single player focused games.

That sucks... Resistance 3 isn't even that old. And what about people wanting to platinum these games?

EA did that with Family Game pack as well.  I was annoyed as I bought all the modules and now you can't even play online and they are pretty useless without online.

How long has GTA5 been out for?  I agree with a game that popular they should leave the servers up until there is a low threshold of players.

Heck I love the fact I can play Bomberman Live and Heartwood Spades eventhough they have been around since the launch of the 360.  As long as there are players, the servers should be up.
