CPU

 I'm not a tech guy.

RAM

Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 have 512 MB of RAM while the PS4 and Xbox One are identical at 8 GB of RAM. The PS4 and Xbox One are 1,600% more advanced than their predecessors in this category.

Cores

The PS3 has 9 cores and the Xbox 360 has 3 cores. Both the Xbox One and PS4 have 8 cores which mean the PS4 has been downgraded by -12% and the Xbox One has been upgraded by 266%.

Wi-Fi

Xbox Systems have improved and better Wi-Fi than PS systems.

Controllers

The PS3 can handle 7 people playing; the PS4 can handle only 4. That is a -43% decline in the number of players. The Xbox One can handle 8 players at a time while the Xbox 360 can only handle 4 players. That is an increase of 100%

Overall

I know this is cloudy but I’d say that the PS4 is about 16.88 times as powerful as the PS3 and the Xbox One is about 19.58 times as powerful as the Xbox 360. HOWEVER about 10% of the Xbox One’s power is used on Kinect making game performance only 17.622 times as powerful. As you can see, with the upgraded CPU, the Xbox One is more powerful than the PS4. That is why the Xbox One cost more money (besides the fact it comes with a camera).

but you're saying that the Xbox and ps4 both have the same increase in RAM but no difference between DDR3 and DDR5 memory? Never mind you said you aren't a tech guy.

Also did you just add up the extra %s and total how much better one system was based on that? so the xbox gains 266% from the number of cores and a further 100% from doubleing the number of controllers connectable? Just wondering?

Btw I left wi fi in there because the Xbox360 all the way til the slim model didn't have Wi Fi without buying an adaptor, so you can say the X1 has infinate% more wi fi than the previous generation, that should really fluff out your end calculations too.

Maybe he means Wi-fi Direct 256mb/s?

Looking at this I came up with several conclusions:

CPU frequency

Xbox One and PS4 have a far lower CPU frequency than its predecessors. That's a good thing right? It can load things at a quicker pace I'm guessing.

PS4 has 100% advantage on PS3 while the Xbox One has a 92% advantage on the Xbox 360.

What the heck are you talking about? Lower frequency = less operations per second, hence less power

ps: didnt the ps3 had 256 mb RAM?

No the ps3 had 512, but was dedicated, not unified like the 360.  So it only had 256 available depending on what you were doing, so you couldnt use all of it to do one thing.

Dunno, but a 0 -> 1 increase in the amount of wifi in the default console is infinate% impressive!

PS4 has 100% advantage on PS3 while the Xbox One has a 92% advantage on the Xbox 360.

Lowere frequency == loading things quicker.  It means less power consumption.

CPU

The PS4 and Xbox One use the same CPU which I'm assuming is superior to the PS3 and Xbox 360. I'm not a tech guy.

They are actually clocked differently, but there are conflicting reports on which is clocked faster.  Not known for sure yet.

RAM

Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 have 512 MB of RAM while the PS4 and Xbox One are identical at 8 GB of RAM. The PS4 and Xbox One are 1,600% more advanced than their predecessors in this category.

You are ignoring the types of ram being used.  X1 uses old ddr3 and ps4 uses grddr5, which is much quicker.  You are also ignoring the ed/esram used in the xbox.  This is not a straightforward comparison and still causes tech people to argue.  Good luck comparing them.

Cores

The PS3 has 9 cores and the Xbox 360 has 3 cores. Both the Xbox One and PS4 have 8 cores which mean the PS4 has been downgraded by -12% and the Xbox One has been upgraded by 266%.

Ps3 had 1 core and 8 spu.  Spu== a core.  Another thing that would be very hard to compare, but the ps4 cpu is definitely not a downgrade.

Storage Space

I’m going to skip this one as the amount of Storage changes throughout the generation. Just note that the Xbox One and PS4 come with a lot more storage than its predecessors did at launch!

Ports

Xbox One has HDMI input in and out while no other console does.

Optical Drive

PS4 is the same as PS3 in the fact it still plays blue rays. Xbox One got upgraded in the fact it now plays blue rays.

These drives have read speeds, which is a pretty big deal because that affects how fast they can read information off the disc.  I dont know the speeds off the top of my head, but I know the ps3 was 2x and I remember the ps4 and x1 were faster than that.

Video Chat

Xbox One now has HD video chat along with cross game chat. PS4 finally has cross game chat.

Bluetooth

PS4 has Bluetooth as well as PS3. Xbox One still hasn’t gotten blue tooth.

Wi-Fi

Xbox Systems have improved and better Wi-Fi than PS systems.

USB

Both the new consoles use USB 3.0 instead of the inferior USB 2.0 used in past consoles.

Controllers

The PS3 can handle 7 people playing; the PS4 can handle only 4. That is a -43% decline in the number of players. The Xbox One can handle 8 players at a time while the Xbox 360 can only handle 4 players. That is an increase of 100%

Overall

This last little bit was just nonsense stats.  How many controllers a console has has nothing to do with power, you should take all that crap out.  You also ignored arguably the most important feature when comparing game consoles, the graphics card.  Ps4 is better than the x1's, but you would have to look it up for specifics.

I know this is cloudy but I’d say that the PS4 is about 16.88 times as powerful as the PS3 and the Xbox One is about 19.58 times as powerful as the Xbox 360. Ok, I went through and corrected stuff so you can re-evaluate your op.

I didn't put the controller/wifi/bluetooth etc in the equation. I only put sheer power.

If this is a sheer power comparison, then you absolutely 100% must begin with the GPUs. There is no debate here and this is not an opinion.

You said it yourself you're not a tech guy, but any first time PC builder knows that the VGA card (the GPU), is the most critical component of any gaming PC in terms of performance.

Dear Toastboy,

I think your posts on tech are much more of a headache than your flaimbait threads.

isn't rule of thumb that your GPU value should equate to all the other parts combined?  I'd say it's pretty important based on that.

1) You should explain how you came up with those numbers (16.88 and 19.58). The numbers are pretty meaningless if we don't know what's behind them.

2) If you don't know how significant the CPU factor is, how can you even come with up a conclusion? More importantly, if you're not a "tech guy" why the fuck are you doing even making technical conclusions???

It doesn't *have* to, but generally you'll find that most gaming PC builders allocate up to half of their budgets on VGA card(s). Past a certain point, then it becomes an issue of adding bells and whistles, higher quality components to balance out the entire build, etc. But the GPU is the most critical component for gaming performance.

Yes, one can spend most of their budget on GPU(s) and cheap out on other components, go with the cheapest case, cheapest motherboard, bare minimum PSU, etc. but this can lead to reliability issues. Not entirely different from spending almost everything on the engine of a car built for speed while spending the least possible amount on everything else.
