Forums - Gaming - Xbox One + PS4 V. Their Predecessors (toasty controversy)

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/next-gen-console-comparison-ps3-ps4-xbox-one-xbox-360/1100-6416217/

Looking at this I came up with several conclusions:

CPU frequency

Xbox One and PS4 have a far lower CPU frequency than its predecessors. That's a good thing right? It can load things at a quicker pace I'm guessing.

PS4 has 100% advantage on PS3 while the Xbox One has a 92% advantage on the Xbox 360.

CPU

The PS4 and Xbox One use the same CPU which I'm assuming is superior to the PS3 and Xbox 360. I'm not a tech guy.

RAM

Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 have 512 MB of RAM while the PS4 and Xbox One are identical at 8 GB of RAM. The PS4 and Xbox One are 1,600% more advanced than their predecessors in this category.

Cores

The PS3 has 9 cores and the Xbox 360 has 3 cores. Both the Xbox One and PS4 have 8 cores which mean the PS4 has been downgraded by -12% and the Xbox One has been upgraded by 266%.

Storage Space

I’m going to skip this one as the amount of Storage changes throughout the generation. Just note that the Xbox One and PS4 come with a lot more storage than its predecessors did at launch!

Ports

Xbox One has HDMI input in and out while no other console does.

Optical Drive

PS4 is the same as PS3 in the fact it still plays blue rays. Xbox One got upgraded in the fact it now plays blue rays.

Video Chat

Xbox One now has HD video chat along with cross game chat. PS4 finally has cross game chat.

Bluetooth

PS4 has Bluetooth as well as PS3. Xbox One still hasn’t gotten blue tooth.

Wi-Fi

Xbox Systems have improved and better Wi-Fi than PS systems.

USB

Both the new consoles use USB 3.0 instead of the inferior USB 2.0 used in past consoles.

Controllers

The PS3 can handle 7 people playing; the PS4 can handle only 4. That is a -43% decline in the number of players. The Xbox One can handle 8 players at a time while the Xbox 360 can only handle 4 players. That is an increase of 100%

Overall

I know this is cloudy but I’d say that the PS4 is about 16.88 times as powerful as the PS3 and the Xbox One is about 19.58 times as powerful as the Xbox 360. HOWEVER about 10% of the Xbox One’s power is used on Kinect making game performance only 17.622 times as powerful. As you can see, with the upgraded CPU, the Xbox One is more powerful than the PS4. That is why the Xbox One cost more money (besides the fact it comes with a camera).

Around the Network

PS4 has a better cpu than what was initially thought. Its either 6 cores operating at 2GHz or 7 cores at 1.75GHz http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=737629

u forgot the gpus
ps3: 32 cores
PS4: 1152

360: 48
xbone: 768

you should also add in the fact that the ps3 and ps4 controllers is rechargeable and don't require batteries. while xbox360 and xbox one still require a battery slot.

The PS4 is more powerful than the X1. #FACT

Hmm interesting it seems like the Xbox One and PS4 are almost exactly the same percentage upgrade from their predecessors if you average in that too. I can't wait until games take full advantage of the hardware

Not if you're like me and buy the play and charge kit ;) But yeah you're right Microsoft needs to put in a rechargable controller

PS3-PS4: 36x

PS3-PS4: 36x

360-xbone: 16x

not even close.

in REAL tf #'s

PS3-PS4:  1.8/.2 = 9.2

360-xbone: 1.3/.25 = 5.2

Homie I'm averaging out the other ones that make xbox one a larger leap. so now they are equal (and yes I know not all categories are equal but that's the best I can do)

Don't forget the power brick, more elaborate headset and kinect device, the xbox one comes with at least 50% more plastic. Since plastic burns, the xbox one can keep you warm longer during zombie invasions.

Power consumption wise the ps4 uses 137 watts during gameplay, vs 70 watts with the latest slim. That's 96% more powerful then the ps3.
Comparatively the xbox one uses 110 watts while gaming, vs 80 watts with the latest slim. That's only 38% more powerful then the 360.
