Forums - Microsoft - Why are you offended when people call the Xbox One XBONE?

The defense arguments are really hilarious: "It is actually easier to type, therefore I do it", "It is shorter than XBox one, and I have such little time to write" :).

I don't get offended, it does make me look at that person differently tho. I love the 'it's shorter' argument tho, because browsing a videogame forum means you don't have an extra 0.5 second to type it out properly :P

Those that use it want to use it and they want the negative connotations to be put across.

But no point getting bent out of shape about it, actually it's kinda helpful.

Yeah, I kinda of believe that there are more people that hope it's offensive than people that are actually offended by it, LOL.

This can be pretty much the same thing though. It's like saying "oh, I don't mind you calling me x, but I know that calling me x was mean spirited". Clearly if you don't think it's offensive, you simply don't discuss it or raise it as an issue. Not saying that this applies to everyone, but I'm sure there's some truth in it.

It kind of reminds me of the whole "Oh, I don't mind gay guys as long as they don't make out in front of me". Well, clearly you do mind, because you didn't mention anything about straight guys making out with girls.

I like the Xbone nickname. Two syllables that roll right off the tongue.

So do you write Xbox One and PlayStation 4 every time you talk about them?

XBO/XB1/X1 look so much better
XBone isnt even an acronym and only originated from fanboys using it in a derogatory manner
it's like when people say M$ instead of MS or MicroSoft

Couldn't agree more, and especially the first is faster to type.  People can pretend all they want that it's not passive aggression, but it is.  Just like the way people use the word 'gay' or 'jap' and completely pretend that they are in a bubble as to how those terms have and can be used derogatively.

All that being said, I'm not offended when it's used per say.  Like others have mentioned, it just puts the user in a certain category and I then take their comments accordingly.

It's just a shorthand version of the name. No different than PS4. Why do you have problems with people who say it?

Honestly, it sounds derogatory.  Like the console is boned (screwed).  There also simpler ways to shorthand it like x1. Another thing is the people that generally use it.  From my observations, it is generally fans of other sytems that use the term xbone, while xbox fans tend to use x1 or something like that.

Personally, I can see how it might annoy/offend people, but I think at this point the term is here to stay, so people need to toughen up and live with it.

I tend to say X1, because it's shorter. I wonder how the Japanese will interrupt the Xbone nickname, since they tend to pronounce it as cross (as in Street Fighter X (cross) Tekken).

Xbone = Crossbone anyone?
