Forums - Microsoft - Why are you offended when people call the Xbox One XBONE?

To me, X1=One=Xbone=Xbox One; they're all used interchangeably.

I always thought people who were mocking it came from the, "xbone= x-boned, boned meaning f*c*e*.

Xbox 720p would have been much more appropriate.

No it is not, it emerged as a way of ridiculing XBox one after all the initial mishaps and followed closely with the "XBox180". It is a clever joke but I never take anyone serious when they use that term.

I can understand disliking XBox180 since the additional "180" part is only there to mock. XBox-180, XBOX:180, and Xbox 180 are all just the same. However with XBONE, do you have a problem with XB-One, XB:One, or XB One?

I don´t have too much of a problem with, I was just saying I don´t take people who use it seriously. Nicknames in gaming has always been silly in my view.

My guess as to why the "XBone" term caught on was:

1: It is really easy to say

2: It probably refers to "Boner", just to add a derogatory term just like "180"

It's just a shorthand version of the name. No different than PS4. Why do you have problems with people who say it?

Because people take it as your saying you are BONED (screwed) if you buy the system.

If you're saying "man that game sucks. The buyers really got xboned" then yeah of course it's something to be against. What's the problem though when it's simply replacing Xbox One in a sentence?

I think people need to get used to it, since that name is here to stay. A couple weeks ago I saw a Gametrailers show were even a developer of the original Xbox used that term, so it's become pretty widespread.

Well when I say it I'm certainly not refering to "boner." Pretty sure other people are the same way.

It doesnt matter really. Even the old Xbox division leader called the Xbox one, Xbone during the Bonus round on GT.

I call it X1, but i have seen people call it XO aswell, wich is more accurate. Oh noes... calling it a zero!! Really... its dumb.

Yeah, but that is you. You asked why people get offended and, while I don´t think that many people actually get offended, you got one plausible explanation from me. Some people do not mean it in a derogatory way, others do. I see it as derogatory, therefore I do not take those people who use it seriously.

X1 is this http://www.comcast.com/x1 , which ironically shares some of the Xbox One's selling points like voice control.

I used to always joke with my bros that the xbox was the sex box. So it only seems appropriate to call it the bone. as I think of a penis/ phallic symbol. i think calling it the one sounds arrogant because it is not the one and only.

calling it the x1 seems the best because it is the shortest abbreviation. But, when I feel like it the bone seems like an awesome name.
