RPG for me, love the worlds, story and characters along with leveling up and getting loot. I like that these elements have been co-opted by other genres as well.

sooo... if you like hack 'n slash, should you vite for beat 'm up? Because there is a difference (not a big 1 though...)

RPGs

JRPGs > WRPGs

Though both are still above other genres for me.

RPG. More bang for your buck usually. They also have the best stories, which is the most important thing to me in games.

I like third-person view, open world or large sandbox, choice and customization, levelling and looting in fantasy and sci-fi settings. Don't like fixed cams, auto-save, random battles, QTEs, invisible walls and extended cut-scenes.

Soo... IDK. WRPGs and the other genres that give me as many of my 'likes' as possible.

Mass Effect, Dead Space, RDR, Fallouts, Gears, AC2 and 4, Elder Scrolls, Tomb Raider, Divinity, Fable, Lost Odyssey, Witcher, Dark Souls, Two Worlds, DDogma, Gothic etc. KOTOR, JEmpire and Gaiden Black from 6th gen. I'll stop now.

i said Misc/ Other because i would have liked if the RPG category was split into western style RPGs, and Japanese Style RPGs.

My favorite is clearly JRPGs, while i feel WRPGs are more meh to me.

Adventure games and platformers probably

Give Zombi U a chance.  I pretty certain you dislike the Nintendo Wii U GamePad and based on our exchanges you are certain to turn this into an attack on Nintendo.  It's the first game since Code Veronica that makes each bullet count.  It's not a cricket bat sim like reviews say.  There's grenades, mines, all different weapons.  Flares distract when crossing a field or moat.  Every minute has your adrenaline, even when you're alone.  The atmosphere is calm.  The areas are different,  meat lockers, daycares, raves, a real neighborhood feeling as well as big open streets.  

I'm positive you've heard all about it by now, but if that's your favorite genre this shouldn't be missed.
