That is not what Family share was. With Family Share you could designate 10 people as family members and all of them could have access to your digital library. You always had access with your Xbox Live Id and they had access even if you weren't logged into their machine.

I can guarantee you that it would have never worked like that.

It actually could, but only (1) person would be able to access a game at a time. It would work similar to a library.

Steam has something like this already. I think it is in beta.

With the important cavaet that the owner always had access no matter where they were.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Sorry, that's not what the family sharing was.

Yeah, but i'm not 100% positive if:

A.) The title owner can access their titles if one of their "family" is using it.

B.) If they can access it I am not sure if both people can play multiplayer concurrently.

None of those questions were answered. The best we got was from Spencer, who said it would act like a library system.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Actually the question about owner was. They explicitly stated that the owner would never be restricted.  How the restrictions would work for the non-owners were never detailed.

I never said the policies were the same, the way yhe digital management functions however is the same. you simply get checked if youre authorized. it works almost the same but yes, if u want to be technical about it its not the exact same thing.

If I were to guess I would say within the next 2+ years we will see a Steam Family Share-type feature on both the PS4 and XBox One.

right now im sharing my ps4 library with my father, i made my account the main on his system and his the main on mine. now he can play all my games and so can i at the same time. only thing thats slightly annoying is when im on my system playing i get a little message every hour or so saying the game was verified this only happens on games i bought on my psn, and thats cause sony thinks his ps4 is my main. he gets the same message on stuff he bought but not on the stuff i bought . hard to explain till you see it in action. not sure how this works with DLC though, like map packs.

You forgot about the demo part, others could only play for an hour or so. The Microsoft employee who was very dissapointed when "always online" was cancelled spilled the beans and explained this.

yeah, not the same.

I can go to a friends house and play my library provided i'm logged into psn. that means i can play my library on any ps4 (millions!). once i log out though the game becomes unplayable.

however, shu confirmed you can log into your psn twice: once on your "home" ps4 and once on another ps4 at the same time. that means (if you are cool with account sharing) you could share you game with up to one friend/family-member at a time. ...downside is that person being logged in as you won't earn their own trophies.

..also same as current xbone afaik.

Why not just make your own ps4 the main system and share it from there?
