Forums - Gaming - I don't think PS4 demand is as high as we are lead to believe.

I have seen numerous users on the forum thinking PS4's are being sold on ebay huge profit. But the reality is... here are some recent ads that just ended on ebay.

...

Little bit cherry picking.  An unbiased average of the last 20 sold was $537.

To see all recently sold consoles look here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Video-Game-Consoles-/139971/i.html?_from=R40&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&_nkw=ps4&rt=nc

It matters that people are still willing to pay over retail.  We're not going to see the same markups as PS3/360 time, when the launch supply was much more constrained.

Compare to Xbox One which is selling much closer to it's MSRP.

People that don't have a good reputaton on eBay are less likely to get high bids, so there will always be some variance.  I was fortunate to win a Xbone Day One  dition for $440 delivered...

Of course it's not as high as portrayed here. Most people here are Playstation enthusiasts.

Demand for both consoles is high and supplies are not meeting it. Console launch 101. But the lengths some go on here regarding demand, lol. Isn't there a thread about a waiting list at almost 2 million for PS4 versus like half a million for Xbone? lol.

I don't understand why anyone would sell on Ebay. Not only is it risky as Ebay bends over backwards for buyers, but after Ebay/Paypal fees and shipping, you barely break even on your sale. One of my friends sold one for $560 including shipping. That's $56 gone to Ebay and another $20 for Paypal. After shipping all the way across the country, he made $450. He made less than $20 on the sale. Just slap it on Craigslist for $500. People will pay and you still make a decent profit.

We'll never really know what the demand for either console is right now, simply because there aren't enough consoles to go around. If you wanna buy bundles, you can buy either console online right now and have been able to for awhile. But most don't wanna buy bundles, and most don't shop online. And at retail it's a crap shoot to find either console. As I said in another thread, someone posted a link to search local Walmart stores and something like 10 of the 14 local stores were in stock but I bet if I called, maybe a couple would actually have one. And I have seen exactly 0 Xbox Ones since a couple days after launch. But if I called around enough? Would be just like the PS4, would probably eventually find one.

Instead of a constant dick measuring contest, lets just be happy that both consoles are having great launches and the industry isn't dying like many people believe/believed it will/would. We could always have more Wii U situations. I am glad the consoles are selling well.

I'll drink to that!

Alright. Doesnt mean that there isnt a high demand.

If you admit your data doesnt mean anything... what are we debating here?

My data points out demand isn't as big as some believe. Hence, some people will be surprised to hear sellers are struggling to make a profit on the mega popular PS4.

I feel you're turning this into a black and white argument, either demand exist or it doesn't. I'm saying demand does exist, its just not a strong as some believe.

Alright i see what you're saying. But high demand and demand as high as people think is a very abstract concept on itself. If it cant be quantified were just speculating over undetermined notions. Therefore there really isnt much point is there?

That's pretty deep. Lets end on that.

This was a fun thread.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Around the Network

Let's compare shall we:

Wii U launch sales to Dec 2012 with 2 months notice on price and availability : 3.08 million
PS4 pre-orders taken for 11 months with price and availability to purchase as of December 2013: 2.1 million

A demand is there but clearly it falls short of the hype and momentum coming out of E3 2013. Also if there are shortage issues now, shouldn't Sony have had ample time to stop that from actually happening?

PS4 price was announced on E3, some 5 months before launch. And where do exactly the 2.1 million come from?

Where in the world did you get that 3.08m from? WiiU had sold 810k at the start of December. They ended the year with 2.2 million.

I honesty dont get what you are doing with this. PS4 demand is not what the Wii was  in holidays 07, but close. I see no comparison to WiiU
