you mean nothing ? Cause that's where your clearly headed with your argument

I'll leave it alone for now. Dont worry, your secret is safe with me ;)

Insecure much ? LOL

What good is a description if nobody buys games based on what the review says ?

How exactly would a forum dweller like yourself know this?

#Fail

Cause you can clearly see the distortion in what the reviewer says compared to what the masses buy. #FailOnYourPart

Once again the best advertising isn't going to save a game. If the game gets good advertising but flops then you can clearly tell that it was trash.

because WORD OF MOUTH and REVIEWS about it being bad from individuals who played it got around

#Fail

Except people don't listen to critic reviews so you fail there.

Yea if the quality of a title is bad then its sales will eventually halt a lot quicker than it would have if it was Quality.

It sounds like you admitted defeat on that first line here.

again because the people who would've played it would've also let it be known that the game was bad. Maybe you should read it again, genius

#Fail

It sounds like you agreed with me so how is this fail ?

The only way to remove the bias is using sales as a measurement of quality. A consensus on a form of entertainment is better and more relevant than an argument against a stigmatized gaming community around here

umm.. no. The only way to remove bias is to play the game for yourself to determine to yourself if it was biased or not.

#Fail

An individual alone can't define quality so there goes your desparate attempt to ignore my point. You can't make the assumption that bias is gone simply because you played the game but that is in fact not true because some people attain a certain bias to genres and such and may give an inflated reception such as japanese gamers praising JRPG's when most of them are clearly garbage. The only way to tell if the game is good is by measuring the sales because each and every purchase only adds value to a games quality. Consumers once again don't lie to themselves about what they want and if they want something then it means they see quality in a product. Consumers don't have all the money in the world to try every product so it was stupid in the first place to suggest that they play every game to see if they dislike it or not.

It sounds like you failed to use your example to prove your point.

No. You just didn't comprehend it, Mr. Rudisha/Attaboy ;)

Whatever makes you feel better LMAO.

You sound extremely desparate to find anything to go against my argument LOL. I'll leave it there so I don't hurt your feelings.

Are you implying that a quality game is only a quality game if it sells a lot?

What's the problem with that ?

So the game that sells less than, lets say 3 million is a bad game?

Again there's a certain criteria that i would make. All games that sell over a million are considered decent. A game that sells between 3-5 million is good. Games that go over 5 million are pretty good. Yadadada you know the rest.

Look out guys, we got a real free thinker here! Lol. If that's how you rate how good a game is you've really missed out on some quality games. Guess the greatest games ever made are GTA San Andreas, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Wii Play, GTA V, New Super Mario Bros (DS), Wii Sports resort, Mario Kart Wii, Tetris, Super Mario Bros (NES), and Wii Sports. Those are the top 10 best selling games worldwide. Nothing but top notch quality.

@Bold You probably don't have anything better either.

Well, if you're saying those games I listed are the highest quality games of all time then I don't have anything to add. If you think there are better quality games then I would say you've already proven yourself wrong. I would however completely disagree that those ten best selling games are the highest quality video games out. Just a matter of opinion though.

Why are the ten best selling games not high quality ? Don't people buy games in order to enjoy them ? Isn't a games quality determined by the amount of fun you have with it ? Why are these games system sellers then ? Why do games underperform even with the best marketing campaign(BF4) ? Why did one of the best regarded(By critics and such.) games ever such as Zelda: Ocarina of Time not save the N64 from obscurity ?(Surely if it was truly one the highest quality games of all time then the N64 would have done much better and it's game sales would peak higher than mario 64 but the reality is not the case.) All of these questions can only be answered in thinking that sales and quality are one and the same. If you disagree with that nototion then we'll have to agree to disagree.

Your the one mad here LOL. You have yet to point out anything that is wrong with my point and on the other hand your the one that should move on because you have nothing to refute my argument.

Why can I not claim that WII sports is better than SMG ? WII sports is THE SYSTEM SELLER whereas SMG did shit to boost the WII so WII sports is clearly of higher quality among the masses than SMG because they thought that it was worth $250 to drop on compared to SMG.

I never said Wii Sports was not a system seller. Using your logic Wii Sports is better than every single other console game. That's why you are wrong. Sales does not mean quality. Period

Again why can't I claim that WII sports is likely better than every other console games ? What is the issue with that ? Isn't the reason you buy a console is for the games ? WII sports clearly proved itself there. Why would people drop $250 to play WII sports ? WII sports is clearly a quality title because it became a system seller.

Just because you buy a game, it doesn't mean that you consider it a quality game. People buy games because they are fun, because their friends bought them, because they look cool (graphics, trailer) etc. I bought Pokemon Y and I think it's a good game, but not as good as Gravity Rush. I also bought wii sports and I don't think it's a good game. It was fun at first, but then it got old.

Again, just because you bought a game, it doesn't mean you think that game is good. Quality has nothing to do with it. No one cared about Picasso and suddendly his works are the most expensive works ever. Did they magically become better after his death? NO. Lack of interest in them or in a game, has no correlation with its quality. There's a reason Shadow of the Colossus is considered one of the best games ever made and wii play simply terrible. Tons of people bought it, but most don't think it's any good.

You could not be more wrong.

Also, trying to draw parellels between video games and picasso.. lol.

How do you measure quality.. I mean think about it. In video games, how can you REALLY measure game quality? Biased game reviews? Your word? Mine? The only TURE and measurable way to judge game quality is sales. If a game sells great, there's probably a good reason it sold great. If a game sold like shit, it's probably shit. End of story.

Sure there may be some easilly manipulated saps that run out and buy games becuase of graphics, or because it "looked cool" but at the end of the day, if it's bad enough, they'll probably sell it back, or spread word to their friends that the game sucks, and thus the game's sales will suffer in the long run.

You measure quality by reviews

Game sales are measured by appeal

Sales DO NOT = Quality

So basically you're judging review scores (ie some random dude's opinion) as gospel when it comes to quality?

Ok, I have nothing more to say to you..

Around the Network

People are getting crossed up on defining quality here, a game like Wiisports is a quality game for the intended market, a lot of people won't class it as a quality game because it doesn't appeal to them and that's the flaw in assessing quality games and the review system employed in gaming. That said sales don't really indicate one game is better then another the are other factors included that determine sales such as accessibility, distribution, marketing, intended market and so on people may have bought the Wii for Wiisports but the former was still vastly affordable (probably the most affordable new console at launch) for the masses.

Yes, all the way up until i play the game for myself to see if its true about what people are saying about it.

It's better than the broken logic of sales = quality that users like yourself and the slob guy in here struggle to use

Nobody has been able to prove how sales could determine a games quality and it can never be proven

Your failed logic has failed you and his arguments.

Sales DO NOT = Quality, sorry ;)

Edit: Anybody on this forum who actually knows how to use logic within their debates and reasoning can happily try to prove how sales = quality. You will Fail EPICALLY just like the other few users in here who tried to back the broken logic.

So please, Minority users who dare to use this broken logic, feel free to bring forth your reasoning of how sales could = quality because these other few users are starting to bore me..

If there is nobody else who uses this broken logic, then that shows that these are the VERY few people who do and that's a good thing

That's less people to educate on this matter.. But then again.. Some dont want to be educated on what's logically right and wrong but oh well..

So now you're saying YOU are the God of video game quality? Gotcha..

I'm not talking about what the standard of quality is in your fantasy world, I'm talking about the practicality of REAL LIFE, from a UNIVERSAL standpoint. And in REAL LIFE, there is only one true way to measure quality, and it's the only way that quality COULD be measured..

Now you COULD make the argument that quality is entirely subjective, and thus cannot be proven or disproven one way or the other. Hell I might even be inclined to agree with you with this argument to some extent, especially when it comes to things like music, TV, and movies.. However, if you claim that quality is NOT entirely subjective, you MUST look for a universally consistant, tangible, measurable way to show TRUE quality.. And this HAS to be how the game has performed in terms of popularity and financial success. It means the game is good enough that it has managed to appealed to the most people and its value has convinced them to spend their hard earned money on it. How in the hell else can you measure quality? Think of it like voting. Majority rules.

I'm not even saying that I PERSONALLY think that every game that sells well is a great game. God knows there are plenty of games that have gone on to sell millions that I dislike, even hate, and games I love that have performed poorly. I'm just saying that this is the only consistant, MEASUREABLE way to gage quality, from a practical standpoint. If a game sells well, it did something right. If it does not sell well, it did something wrong. Period.
