Forums - Sony - Why Do People Act Like Sony (Computer Entertainment) Doesn't Have Financial Problems?

Its cause the wii sold so well that it made Sony fanboys jelly which made them take over the internet and any hate against Sony will make the hater's email get spammed with hate against them... What a hateful world we live in...

But with that being said... The main reason why Sony's profits are so terrible isn't really cause of the ps3 (although it had some large impacts as well)... Its Sony's entire company as a whole.. Their Movie, TV, Music, PC, and mobile division doesn't make them any profits for the past few years... Mostly cause they are not worth the price you pay for and their competitors, such has Samsung, has better price and product in many cases...

If anything... Their gaming division is doing the best out of all of their divisions but even with the profits from the ps4, the company as a whole probably won't make profit unless some magical fairy princess comes and sprinkles cash out of thin air.

Some people seem to think I'm against Sony. I'm not. All I'm saying is that I find it annoying it is when "journalist" say the Wii U is doing terrible, when the PS3 was doing much financially worse in 2007 than the Wii U is right now. They always act like Wii U will never have a turn around, yet when PS3 was a year old, they said Sony was doomed because of the PS3. 6 years later the PS3 has 80 million units sold and they almost never mention that the PS3 was doing bad.

What year is this, 2008? Sony's television division is still losing money but their other divisions are doing well and the organization as a whole if profitable.

When the PS3 launched they had everything against them and still managed to turn it around, now with the PS4 they have everything going for them there is almost no way for them not to do good this gen.

Not sure how anyone could agree with this?

it's just the opposite.  Sony had the largest fan base by at least 3 times the combined total of all of its competition.  They had ALL of the 3rd party support.  They had almost all of the gamers mindshare. Sony couldn't fail.  It shows how easy it is to have all the cards in your favor and still lose. It's a bunch of revisionist thinking that places Sony in a bad spot to start last gen.

clealry, Sony is making some different decisions to start this gen. but being 1 month in tells us nothing yet, except that they are clearly succeeding in appeasing their fan base.

It is near the end of the end....

The problem is not that Nintendo has been losing money. They've actually been profiting because they play it smart and sell cheap hardware whilst making quality games. Problem is when Sony entered the market when it comes to a solid consumer-base Nintendo has lost to Sony everytime. The Wii was a special case so seeing that that marketshare is not coming back they are back to square one with Sony. Nintendo's only regret about the Nintendo Wii was the lack of profitability or the existence of top tier third party games on their platform. Thank god Microsoft is there to stand in Sony's way. Again, its a stable marketshare problem not a profit problem.

Even if PS4 is the fastest selling console in history, it doesn't make sense to ingore how financially unsuccessful the PS3 was and pretend it was a huge financial success because it sold 80 million. I can understand why the "journalist" do it though. Since It's mostly used in negative Nintendo articles, Nintendo fanboys will keep going back to the website to see if they put up more negative Nintendo articles. It's sort of like what YouTube trolls do to get views.

And how does it benefit any consumers to woe over the financial mishaps of the PS3?

It doesn't. 80 million consoles sold is a very good number, but It's pretty sad when 80 million sold doesn't make a profit. Basically, PS3 was a huge success with everything except profit.

ok...so what? what does that have to do with the support PS3 got and is still getting? I mean isnt that what is REALLY important? the games? Hell Wii made alot of profit and the last thing they put was JD2014

I agree with you. But even if the PS3 has support, It's still not good for Sony to loose so much money off an awesome console.

We all know that Sony has financial problems. But as a gamer am I to assume that their games and consoles suck just because they are not financially stable?

This. We're not ignoring it, we just dont care. Why should I? SOny is still delivering the goods, something you cant say so much for Nintendo (judging by sales and game support that is, but still IMO) 3ds is fine. Wii is pretty much done, Wii U is having a hell of a time 3ds is good. PS4 is on fire, PS3 is STILL getting supported, Vita getting slammed.

How do judge good games by sales? Are you saying ps4 first party is better than dreamcast?  Sony sure are giving instant classics like knack and killzone. Both which are under pikmin on the metacritic. I'm starting to think Sony fans are more interesting in Sony winning console wars than producing actual great games.

Please, i can only speak for myself and a few others but Sony has been delivering even when losing the console wars. But i did word it wrong, i was going by software sales in general. sales for Wii U games are not great, unless its Ninty's own games (and even then some of them flopped; Wario) where for now at least software for PS3 and Xbone seem to be doing fairly well.

Wii U is doing worst than PS3 and 360 in the same timeframe despite both those consoles being more expensive. Thats probably what the journalists are getting at, who profits from what is a different discussion

agreed...but again. So what? thats more of a Sony problem and not a gamer problem unless you own stock. Nothing you and I can do about it, so might as well enjoy the system. Hell i think its even more impressive that they loose money but STILL get support for their system and put out game after game.

Sony has more than ten times the assets of Nintendo, thus they were able to absorb a far bigger loss than Nintendo will ever be able to. Additionally, the PS3 sold about 8 million units in 2007 while the WiiU will struggle to sell 3 million this year. The WiiU is selling so badly that it may never gain traction in the market, much in the same way as the Vita. The WiiU is not in the same position as the PS3 circa 2007 and that's the reason why gaming journalists aren't making any such comparisons. I don't expect the WiiU to sell a third as many units as its predecessor.
