Drive less version would only be practical if you have a very fast internet provider without any data limits. For the majority of users it would be very impractical. Since most people have not so fast internet with data caps.

I don't think bandwidth limits are very commong outside the US. At least they're extremely rare in Finland. Also, fast internet connections are becoming more and more common.

Well most providers in the US have data caps unless you are very lucky and have Google fiber which is ultra fast and has no data caps.

Luckily most of the world's population lives outside the US and doesn't have to deal with the data caps of US internet providers.

Wouldn't make the system cheaper, but they could make it a lot smaller. Don't think it would be worth for consumers or Sony/Microsoft.

Not to mention that the two largest providers in the U.S don't have caps. The only time I've heard of an internet cap on a home internet service was when Comcast tried to set a 250 gb/month cap for people who consistently downloaded at excessive levels, and was admonished for it, forcing them to enable higher limits -> unlimited again.

An additional question is: who downloads 250 GB a month and chooses a plan that isn't unlimited? Anybody downloading that much will have the fastest and best plan possible.

I still want to watch my DVD / Blu-ray collection and I don't want to have to buy a 2nd device to do that (or keep my phat old PS3 connected to my main TV). So, with Blu-ray drive for me.

A BD-ROM drive costs less than $20... You won't see a big impact on price.

it would be a smart move though even if they reduce the price by 50$. because they would make more money per software sale. they would basically insure that that consumer would buy digital all the time AND cant buy any used games. it would result in more software sales, and more profit per sale.

Aren't you keeping your PS3 for backwards compatibility, anyway? Also, the PS3 can play 3D Blurays, while the PS4 couldn't upon launch (don't know if they updated yet.) Having a 3D television myself, which I use my PS3's bluray player for, I find that inferior.

You are right if the used games market didn't generate new sales...

It was already proved the used market sell more new games because gamers have more money and buy more games with it... a example if I sell any used game I will use the money to guy a new release game for sure... ir I don't have this money I don't buy a new release... same for the guy that bought my used game... if I didn't sell used to him then he will maybe he will never buy the game.

Used game market generates new retail sales for the companies.

PS. That's how the guys that I bought some used game do... they buy new games... and I just bought used games because they are games that I won't buy new never... so if used games didn't existis then some games I will never play (eg. NiER, Cross Edge, BlazBlue, etc).

I need a Blu-ray player for my 2nd TV, and I hate 3D with a passion, in fact I hate it so much for movies and TV that I see PS4 not supporting it as a good thing.

Xbox one but it would need a bigger HDD and games should be alot cheaper. I will never buy a full retail game at $60. Microsoft is working on trading/reselling/loaning for Digital games on xbox one so we will see.
*cough* The idea steam copied from microsoft *cough cough*

THat just goes to show how bad valve is as a company. They stole an idea that even Microsoft rejected.
