1- redesign the gamepad to be slimmer and bigger 8" multitouch screen to be able to compete with tablets. Only apps would take advantage of multitouch, not games.

2 - Rebrand, redesign and rename the console. Wii U Slim, Wii U Lite.

3 - moneyhat more 3rd parties for exclusive games and collaborations.

Nintendo wouldn't do that, they are too comfortable with their "unique approach" Which means unprecedented support from third parties.

Yep.

Yeah, just because the games don't have cartoon graphics they're exactly the same. What a joke, this just shows you how much you fail at identifying diversity.

You can't find anything like Dead Rising, Ryse, Zoo Tycoon or Killer Instinct on PS4, and you can't find anything like Knack or Resogun on Xbox One.

Great job constructing that strawman.

I particularly like the part where you list Zoo Tycoon as one of the games proving that they're not "identical twins" (you DO realise that most instances of identical twins have minor variations in appearance between the two, right?). And it wasn't a comment about diversity, but overall lineup comparison. I'm not claiming that the game lineups are identical, but that they're close enough to identical that it's only really worth getting both systems if there's some specific game you want - and their feature sets are pretty much the same, too. On the other hand, there's a reasonably long list of Wii U games that are exclusive, and you won't find anything like them on the other two, either in terms of overall gameplay, or feature sets.

I used the description of "identical twins" to emulate the way that people often referred to the X360 and PS3 as "the HD twins", because they mostly got the same games, with a moderate number of exclusives - the Xbox One and PS4 are more similar than the X360 and PS3 were, with more third-parties releasing all of their games as multiplatform releases, rather than sometimes making them exclusives.

It's worth noting that it wasn't a disparaging remark, either. There's nothing wrong with their lineups being similar. It just means that the value in owning the two of them at the same time is diminished by comparison with owning one of them and a Wii U. The value in owning either one alone isn't in any way diminished.

But hey, why bother with a nuanced opinion, when you can just jump straight to the stupid console warfare, and lob idiotic remarks like "cartoony graphics" for no good reason?

EDIT: Oh, and I thought I'd throw in a Miiverse image I drew, to finish this post off.

Nope, still an incredibly weak argument. You can't claim they're twins just because they get third party games (and I bet bottom dollar if WiiU got all those third party games you wouldn't be calling them them the HD triplets.)

I suggest you go play an Xbox One and PS4 and you'll see they do things very differently, Xbox One is very focused on Kinect, whereas PS4 is focusing on Vita as an input device.

Its too late for them to do what I would have had them do for number one, but here's my list:

1. Rebrand WiiU. Most non-game consumers (the blue ocean) do not realize that Wii U is a separate console from Wii STILL. Nintendo has absolutely botched the launch of this console, and nothing short of a rebrand and relaunch will help. This season would have been perfect (since we had 2 major console launches already). Market the "Wii Two" or "Super Wii" or hell "Ultra Nintendo" as capable of playing WiiU games, and rebrand all future packaging.

2. Better marketing. They've given people zero reason why the WiiU is a must have item. I can't think of any that anyone outside the Nintendo faithful care about: It has Nintendo games. Woo! What else?

3. On Time Software: Stop with this "We're sorry, but we need more time" crap. Yes, I'd rather have a great game than a shitty game. But this is a false dichotomy. The choice is more between a "Great awesome game" and "really good game". Meanwhile, software doesn't get released, Nintendo reinforces their rep for perpetual delays, and the one good reason to own a WiiU (nintendo games) doesn't materialize until the nebulous "future".

4. I'll agree with a poster above: Stop letting Miyamoto make business and hardware decisions. It is his fault Nintendo 64 used cartridges, it is likely his fault WiiU uses powerpc instead of x86. Huge design blunder in hindsight. Does it make backward compatibility easy? Yep. Does it cripple 3rd party support and the future of the console? You betcha.

More later.

Check out my Youtube Let's Play channel here.

1. Realize that you have put a machine on the market with a heavily limited appeal, that has close to zero chances of ever reaching the hights of its predecessor

2. There are two possible scenarios now, one that should happen if Nintendo really wants to change the course of the Wii U (a) and the one Nintendo will probably approach.(b)

a) Fire Iwata, rearrange the management and think of something new, something mindblowingly amazing that nobody here could expect, that's something people don't seem to be able to grasp, what the Wii U needs isn't a new Zelda or Smash or MK, or a new bundle, or even a pricecut (unless it's a really significant one), it needs something completely fresh and new that none of us would think of, a completely new direction.

b) Make the console cheaper to make and only cut the price once you can still make money even after the pricecut.

Now continuing after (b)

3. Make your standard games and make money with them. Basically make sure you get money out of the Wii U.

4. Start thinking about your next console (or if you want to make one) and think real hard, cause by now you should have realised that Mario alone is not an easy recipe for success anymore, so you'll need a better product next time.

His point is very clear I think. Unless you want MS or Sony exclusives very badly you can basically choose between either one of them, what drives those consoles up are the 3rd party games, and both of them will have the exact same libabry when it comes to 3rd party stuff.

Price, off-game features, graphics, etc will be the reason most people will make a choice between the PS4 and X1, and not the difference between libraries.

Edit: Nintendo case is different because every since the N64 what drives the console are 1st party games, very different from MS and Sony.

Nintendo and PC gamer

10. Release the tenth best game of all time as a system exclusive.
9. Release the ninth best game of all time as a system exclusive.
8. Release the eighth best game of all time as a system exclusive.
7. Release the seventh best...

I think you get the idea. Lots of good software means lots of hardware sales. One or two hits ain't enough.

1. Panic

2. Run around aimlessly screaming for a few minutes.

3. Fire Iwata

4. Fire Miyamoto

5. Focus exclusively on hardcore titles

6. Release mobile versions of old Nintendo games

7. Begin shifting resources to iOS development

8. Make multi-platform versions of all first-party titles going forward

9. Drop the Wii U's price to $200 and cease future home console development

10. Drop the 3DS' price by $50 per SKU and cease future handheld console development
