Its too late for them to do what I would have had them do for number one, but here's my list:
1. Rebrand WiiU. Most non-game consumers (the blue ocean) do not realize that Wii U is a separate console from Wii STILL. Nintendo has absolutely botched the launch of this console, and nothing short of a rebrand and relaunch will help. This season would have been perfect (since we had 2 major console launches already). Market the "Wii Two" or "Super Wii" or hell "Ultra Nintendo" as capable of playing WiiU games, and rebrand all future packaging.
2. Better marketing. They've given people zero reason why the WiiU is a must have item. I can't think of any that anyone outside the Nintendo faithful care about: It has Nintendo games. Woo! What else?
3. On Time Software: Stop with this "We're sorry, but we need more time" crap. Yes, I'd rather have a great game than a shitty game. But this is a false dichotomy. The choice is more between a "Great awesome game" and "really good game". Meanwhile, software doesn't get released, Nintendo reinforces their rep for perpetual delays, and the one good reason to own a WiiU (nintendo games) doesn't materialize until the nebulous "future".
4. I'll agree with a poster above: Stop letting Miyamoto make business and hardware decisions. It is his fault Nintendo 64 used cartridges, it is likely his fault WiiU uses powerpc instead of x86. Huge design blunder in hindsight. Does it make backward compatibility easy? Yep. Does it cripple 3rd party support and the future of the console? You betcha.
More later.
