Forums - Gaming - Impressed by the PS4... Blown away by the X1

The Snap feature is awesome, play your game while checking facebook, or Vgchartz at the same time, or video chat with your friend while both playing... the same game, or something different.

I really don't understand this, maybe cause I've been able to do that since windows 3.1 and have always preferred full screen gaming instead. I switched to consoles to get away from the multi tasking distractions. Maybe it's just me, I'm not that interested in talking to friends while playing (unless they're in the room ofcourse). I usually ignore the message received notification, will get back to you after I finish the chapter or race.

The live streaming feature is nice to check out other games, and random drunk people, but gaming is the nr 1 purpose.

Me and 3 of my co workers are the same exact way. We have each other on the friends list but we only talk if we are playing together. Seriously... what is there to say while sitting and playing a game and paying attention to the game more than the person on the mic? There would be a lot of dead air and i just hate dead air. Makes me feel like i need to talk to fill it even if i have nothing

I've seen both consoles at a friends house, got to spend a good amount of time with each, and while the PS4 is defiitely a powerhouse of a console, the X1 was the only machine out of the two that actaully made me feel like I was interacting with something 'next-gen'.

We played Battlefield on both systems and there's no doubt which one looked better. The PS4 version. Played Killzone also and can't really say I was all that impressed by it. Great graphics, but not really enough going on to make it feel like the vanguard shooter of the 8th gen. Sorta boring after a couple days. Spawn. Shoot. Die. Cruised around Sony's UI for a bit and there simply wasn't all that much to do, to interact with.
It just feels like a more powerful PS3

The X1 on the other hand, the downgrade in Battlefields graphics notwithstanding, truly felt next-gen to me. Let me explain that a little bit. Every gamer understands that better graphics won't equate to a better experience, it's the level of interaction you have with the game that matters, and that holds true with the consoles themselves.

Sony, again, brought a monster console to the masses, a graphical beast, but did so at the cost of innovation. No one buys a console anymore 'just to play' games. Those that say that are simply fooling themselves, intentionally, and doing so in an attempt to downplay the advantages that the competitor has.
And this is where the X1 really shines against the PS4:
What it can do in addition to games, the different ways you can interact with it, what it offers as a complete package.

The X1, right now, can do things that the PS4 simply can't and will never be able to.
The Snap feature is awesome, play your game while checking facebook, or Vgchartz at the same time, or video chat with your friend while both playing... the same game, or something different.
The Upload Studio. We must have spent 45 minutes or so just checking out the different videos that other players posted, some just a few minutes before we clicked on them... everything from a 5 second stream of somone's three point shot, to a quick video blog about Sports Rivals.
It was all amazingly fast, intuitive, and seamlessly accessible right there on the dash.
The Kinect 2. Say what you want about it, hate on it if it makes you feel better, but the thing is simply awesome and a huge advantage for the X1.
The HDMI input, don't really need to say anything more about that.

Sony went for more of the same, just bigger.
Microsoft went for something different, innovative.
Sony wins the graphics war... Microsoft takes everything else.
Pretty easy decision.

Well, I respect your opinion, of course, but I would say that's just your point of view. I don't care that much about using facebook while playing a Game; I'm a hardcore gamer, I just focus on games when I play. Maybe this One is more for casual, who are ready to spend 100$/euro more to check their facebook while playing ?  Innovation also comes from a more powerful hardware, which allows Devs to do more things, better things, more immersive graphics, better physics, etc etc. It depends from what you want.  Look at Wii; it was more innovative than PS360 with its motion controller in the beginning, but if you ask me, I prefer 100 times to play my PS3 with a normal dualshock. So, innovation with the controller or innovation with experiences like The last of Us ? Better to move and play with Wii or playing GTA5 on PS360 ?? It's up to you; how can you think your opinion about innovation is something objective ? It's just your taste, your interpretation of innovation, nothing else.  To be able to do more things(and XBox One is Not doing more things) does not mean better, neither 'more' next gen.  It just depends from what you want from a console. And, I want PS4, and I bought it.

PS4 can :

Multilog In

Game Recording

Game Streaming

Share and Options Button (I'm listing this separate of recording since it's a fundamental controller change)

Touchpad

Speaker (done before but still new enough)

Headphone Jack(done before but still new enough)

PlayStation App

Text Entry (rotate DS4 to type, or just use the PS app)

Light Bar

Multitasking

Live From Playstation

Remote Play built in

soon :

Gaikai

Stream Interaction(take control of another's game or give them gifts)

Suspend/Resume

Not enough ?

I honestly don't see one innovation in that whole list.

i just realised PC did it all first!

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Yes everything was amazing on the X1, how could it not be? The words of fanboys fall on deaf ears. Who wants to check facebook while gaming? Who uses facebook on a 50" TV? My phone and tablet and occasionly PC are there for that(Free as well). The majority of things Sony can patch in later. I'm glad Sony made the PS4 a games console first and formost. They can add in all the other features later and slowly. As the games will get more demanding and complex the X1 will start to show its weaker power and will struggle to render at 1080p. I hope at that point you can just turn the games off and just play with the other features while we the gamers enjoy the Games

Wow, while I agree with you, it's interesting to watch how people react.

How much do you think the haptic feedback triggers effected your preferred choice? They seem to be the biggest innovation this gen.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

so what were you last gen without 1080p if not a gamer?

The Xbox one does things that ps4 will never do? The ps4 on paper can do more things because its the more powerful machine.. Love how you completely ignored twitch and ustream too

People said similar things about the PS3 early in it's life, and yet cross game chat was never added. In fact, the PS3 lost backwards compatibility as the 360 added additional BC.

Point is, Sony surprised everyone coming out as early as they did, and MS had to move up their timetable to compete... and yet they still released with more features. If you think that is no indication of the future, then I don't know what to tell you.

PC actually got their drivers and tools for Kinect long after the 360 did it. I know there was similar products but the 360 has the PC with Kinect

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I love the Xbox One right now, but I know soon in the future Sony will pull ahead in content like they always do.
