Don´t pay atention to the man saying Sony will ship more PS4 to a country where a Xbox One costs almost half and currently has about 20 to 1 supply in any major retailer.

The launch in emerging markets is good, this will create market share for later. But imo, they shouldn't send a lot of stock to those places. Just enough, not too much. And then send more to markets like the US where the real battle is fought.

I'm on point... you just don't like that.
If Sony outsell MS in all 13 countries then Sony was wisest... it is pretty clear.

With you, i guess even if sony sell more WW, the strategy of 13 markets would enable microsoft to focus shipment on the primary markets and as a result, assuring the lead in those market at least for the holiday.
SONY operates under different equations. They are in a dire financial situation. My guess? They are probably making more money on selling hardware in Dubai. As they are certainly making more money off PSN plus there (it IS more expensive). MS doesn't need the money, they play their game accordingly. In other words, I think each company is benefiting differently from the how they chose to play.

The bolded pretty much helps my point. |
premature because we dont know how MS and Sony are allocating stock for the rest of the holiday. For example, Sony had more stock at launch, less stock at BF. MS had less stock at launch and more at BF. that was the point, the way they stocking the consoles isnt exactly the same. MS might be stocking more now, but might have less on the holiday, or Sony is stocking less in the USA in general.
my point is, when we know the real numbers by the end of the year we will know exactly how much stock MS and Sony had for the holiday. Maybe Sony stretched itself too thin, maybe not. i agree that USA is a more important battleground, but still, this battle is still going. also, i think you should have waited for NPD today to just make sure of the numbers, while VGC seems correct so far (more due to Sony and MS keeping announcing sales numbers constantly) VGC could still be wrong.
your argument would have a lot more merit if xbone was actually outselling ps4 in US/UK LTD. as it stands ps4 is outselling xbone in all markets both have released in except australia i believe AND obviously wining the 20 markets that xbone isn't released in too.
an extra 20k this holiday to US won't, imo, change much for how things play out in the US. that number is, frankly, too small relative to US sales volume. but 20k to denmark or poland basically secures that market for sony. MS will be so far behind it will be hard to compete because, imo, the best distinguisher of a console is the answer to "which console do all my friends have?".
so the real answer is,.. sony should have manufactured more. :P
I don't think it really matters honestly. Once they can pump out supply the numbers will catch up.

The difference between numbers in US will be miniscule. The better sttagety is obviously more markets
Never thought about this, but I think you're right. Not that the "console sold is a console sold" philosophy is without merit. But yeah, your idea makes almost perfect sense.
