Forums - Nintendo - Platinum Games Creative Director is Fed Up With Bayonetta 2 port begging

Hahaha this is sad and pathetic, why not beg for Zelda and Mario on playstaion too.

They continuously do by asking Nintendo to go third party.

Like all those people ran out and bought Rayman Legends on PS3 and 360 as soon as Ubisoft stopped screwing over their audience by not keeping it a Wii U exclusive?

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Do these people realise that Nintendo owns the rights to Bayonetta 2?

Whinging to Platinum CAN'T make a difference, as they don't have the power to decide to port it to other systems. It's not difficult.

If you care that much just buy a Wii U, and get W101 whilst you're at it; it's a great game that deserves to be played.

You either own the IP or you don't. You don't just "own the rights" to one particular title in a series. And just because Nintendo published and funded the game doesn't mean that it will remain exclusive. Look at Mass Effect 1. MS published and funded that game, but it ended up on PS3 because the IP switched to a new publisher. MS didn't own anything with ME. Gears could end up on a PS console as well, if Epic Games strikes a deal with a different publisher, and they could retroactively place the whole Gears series on a PS console if they saw it as profitable (probably not). Same could happen with Bayonetta 2.

That being said, at this moment in time, this game is being published and funded by Nintendo, so right now, people need to just stfu and get a WiiU if they want it so bad. To ask them to port it isn't simply a matter of coding the game for PS and Xbox. They have to get a different publisher who will OK multiplatform development, have a financial plan, etc. etc. that goes into game development. It may be simple to port it, but so much more goes into something like that. Only reason ME appeared on PS is because EA straight up bought BioWare. To want Bayonetta 2 to appear on PS and Xbox is to either ask Platinum Games to get bought out (which happens, but isn't cool to wish upon independent developers, unless they want it) by a company that does multiplatform games across the board or for them to jump through the hoops of getting a different publisher after the game has already been mad. Either way, I don't think the gains would outweigh the cost in either situation.

So, TL;DR get a WiiU is you want this game right now

Bayonetta 2 will NEVER be on any platform than the WiiU, it will NEVER be ported. No matter who owns the Bayonetta IP, the Bayonetta 2 game will ALWAYS belong to Nintendo.

"buying a license gives you the ability to make "something" with that intellectual property.
and what you do with that license is yours and yours alone, because you already paid the creator of the IP for the license.

There's no way an agreement where someone puts money on the project and someone else take control over it can exist.

The game is basically a nintendo game, developed by platinum using a license from sega.

Nintendo pays and have control over the game
platinum develops and receive money from nintendo for that
sega permits the utilisation of the bayonetta franchise and receive money for that (and maybe a share of the profits)

An IP is just a shell, sega owns the shell but not the game inside of it,because they didn't put money on said content..or are you suggesting that nintendo is paying for a game and then it will give it for free to sega to port on other consoles?it doesn't make any sense "

And yet, Ninja Gaiden 2 appeared on PS3, despite being "basically a Microsoft game, developed by Team Ninja, using a license from Tecmo". Just because something like this "doesn't make sense" doesn't mean it hasn't happened before.

edit: and I didn't want to quote the entirety of the last couple of posts, but the HTML on this site obviously needs to be reworked. I edited the comment above this one to just "." because it was a mess when I deleted one comment in the quote, made my response, and hit submit.

WOW realy, i try to explain is simple terms. It was a game owned by TECMO.

Nintendo own Bayonetta 2 game now and forever, it will be always belong to Nintendo and Nintendo alone.

Sega owning the Bayonetta IP has no impact on this at all. It dosnt matter if Sega sell the IP or whoever owns it.

This is why the begging is so stupid.  I cant believe people are so stupid they still need these things explained in explicit details.

Maybe they should have thought about that before taking the decision. They should have expected that PS3/360 owners would be outraged. More than 1 year has passed and yet they don't share anything about their projects on other systems. No wonder people think PG completely turned their back on them.

look at MH4. It did extremely well despite it being Sony only exclusive for years

Bayonetta isn't exactly as popular as MH, and WiiU install base is significantly lower than 3DS's. PG's behavior for the past year has sounded like they had become a Nintendo-only developer. Unless they do something to break that image, the Sony/MS audience will keep being mad at them.

Yea, owned by Tecmo, published by Microsoft. Just how Bayonetta 2 is owned by Sega, published by Nintendo. Hate to break it to you, but Nintendo doesn't own Bayonetta 2, they are just funding it at the moment. I guess that's the real point that you're missing.  Just like how Microsoft didn't own Ninja Gaiden 2, they just funded the development. The situation is EXACTLY the same. I don't know how you don't understand it. There are no "explicit details" needed. Only reason it's only on Nintendo is because Nintendo is publishing it. If Sega wanted to publish it, they could, and put it wherever they want. Nintendo can't tell Sega what to do with their game, if Sega, at some point, wants to get involved. To say that Sega owning Bayonetta has no impact is tantamount to me saying "you may own that shirt, but you can't wear it"

Does Microsoft own Mass Effect 1? BioWare owned the IP, but that had no impact, right? Doesn't matter if they sell the IP or whoever owns it (EA now). It will always belong to Microsoft and Microsoft alone, right? Microsoft didn't need to own the IP, just that one game, right?

If you can't see how that situation and the one with B2 aren't identical, then you are just blind. And it's derailing the thread too. All I said was that it's possible, through some changes behind the scenes, for this game to go multiplat, however, to do so requires a lot of work and going multi may not be justified. So get a WiiU if you want to play it.

People who still begging for a port are truly not very clever (dumb as bread).

Anyway a niche game like Bayoentta 2 fits better to the Wii U audience than to the blockbuster CoD-Audience.

The publisher owns the right to publish the game.

Sega may well decide to publish Bayonetta 3 as a multi plat, as they own the rights to the IP.

But Nintendo owns the rights to publish Bayonetta 2. Simple as. Sega cannot touch the game, as it doesn't belong to them. The only way Bayonetta 2 could turn up on another platform is if Nintendo decide to do it, or if they decide to sell the publishing rights to someone else.

Nothing to do with Platinum, nothing to do with Sega. Bayonetta 2 doesn't belong to them, end of conversation.

Jeez, it's like talking to a sack of rocks.

That reminds me, I need to message him and ask for my Bayonetta 1 port for the Wii U!
