I'm glad I sold my stock in Nintendo back in late November, had a healthy return.

Nintendo did okay with 3DS, surprised it did not do better with Pokemon supporting the handheld and the holiday season but Wii U results are simply embarrassing, especially 3D World numbers - the game is a goddam gem.

Still feel like having that champagne with popcorn?

I am having some nonetheless. There is nothing that will change that :)

Gaming did well as a whole this November, but the lack of 3DS sales and ''return to form for Wii U'' given Mario is quite frankly disheartening.

Well that´s good!...though I don´t think champagne with popcorn is a good combination, but to each his own.

Remember that message I sent you today?...puts things into perspective, doesn´t it?...it´s sad, I´m having a fantastic time with Mario 3D World, but the system itself is being toxic to Nintendo´s games. At this point I won´t be surprised if the Wii U versions of Mario, Mario Kart, Smash, etc..end up being the lowest selling iterations in their respective franchises.

Expect any drastic moves from them next year?

As I was mentioning in the other thread, sony not focusing on the Vita (since it has been disrupted by cell phones) is probably the best thing they did the past 12-18 months. It may sound bad on the surface but Sony has been a champion in home consoles, and they needed to keep that trend going. Trying to fight step /step with Nintendo would have been a losing effort as it took focus away from the PS4. Now with Nintendo you see them struggling on all fronts:

Nintendo franchises decline/fatigue in their biggest market
Nintendo baking on said franchises to help the Wii U during its time to turnaround the 3DS, fell right on its face.
2DS despite being cheaper failing to have an significant impact on overall 3DS sales
Nintendo is still no where near their original estimate for Wii U sales of 5.5 million

Black Friday is not the end all be all but is an important gauge for the rest of the year and next year and its like deja vu all over again.

Sony meanwhile can go to developers with these PS4 numbers and say hey, people are buying software, hardware just develop and the customers will come.

Good points all around. However, I strongly disagree on the franchise fatigue aspect; instead, I'm more inclined to say that individuals are just not willing to shell out 300+$ only for those franchises to be playable and not have the rest of the gaming industry has to offer (3rd parties).

Nintendo needs a restructuring definetely; however, Iwata should maintain a position in the company and take over Miyamoto's current position - Manager of software development.

Why does VGC have the WiiU at 1.73mil. Thats 200k overtracked. And people are betting it will easily achieve 10m by next month and Nintendo know what they are doing?

not people, one person

Sorry, meant next year. They need to sell 6mil in the next 13months. GC didnt do that and Wii U is less than GC since launch by about 3mil

And even he called that off, last prediction from him I've read put the Wii U below 8mil for the end of the year.

I think right now 6 million is the best bet.

They had no problem making that election last generation, though.

Admittedly "those franchises" were somewhat cut from a different cloth than this generation's ilk.

Right now for year end the best bet would be 4.5m.

According to famousmortimer PS4 has a 200k+ advantage on X1.

"So the November NPDs have come in and the results have some interesting implications and give a bit of a clearer picture of what each company’s current strategy is. Sony certainly coveted North America enough to secure the top spot but have resigned themselves to demand outstripping supply so they could take the rest of the world as well. Microsoft clearly has designs on not letting the United States slip away and have flooded retail since the launch. It wasn’t good enough to catch up in November, giving the PS4 a solid 200k+ lead going into December but with the Xbox One available nearly everywhere and the PS4 available almost nowhere it’s hard to believe that Sony will be the victor in December in North America. I think this should also put to rest the rumor that many people believed, myself included, that MS was having yield issues. Their console output has been extremely strong."

From gaf:
Nintendo hardware sales in November:

2002 1.62m
2003 1.94m
2004 1.95m
2005 1.46m
2006 2.11m
2007 2.51m
2008 3.61m
2009 2.96m
2010 2.78m
2011 2.01m
2012 1.76m
2013 0.99m + DS + WII

(GBA+DS+3DS+GC+WII+WIU)

wow... just wow.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

PS4 is a beast!

Poor Vita.
