Only thing that is a surprise, is that PS3 took the smallest dropoffs from the holiday season. But other than that not too mnay surprises. But I still think that software wise, NPD is a little farther off than normal.

That would have been unbearable. Not only because the Wii is a fad threads would have popped up like mad, but because we'd have to wait a whole month before NPD February comes out and shows that it was just a one time thing.

Though I guess I could have lived with it. PS2 hardest fight was in NA, where it only sold like 58% of the hardware sales in any given year (and overall), compared to it's dominating 80% marketshare everywhere else. I guess I can live with a similar situation with the Wii in America. 47 million isn't THAT bad.

And not to burst your bubble, but...

the nunchuck with wii play is 10 dollars extra. some people just want an extra controller and don't want to spend more money than they have to... how is that undertracking? some people also buy more than one controller. some peoples controllers break

Yeah when you look at those numbers it almost seems plausible, if only when looking at DS numbers. How could the DS go from nearly a million a week in Dec to 60k a week in Jan, unless there's major supply problems? And both Patchter and simExchange had much higher (100k and 200k, respectively). It seems really crazy. Numbers were actually all over the place this month.

Looking at last year's data, I'd say that the DS is probably way overtracked. PS3 is most likely undertracked.The rest are ok. I'd still say VGChartz is quiet accurate.

We get enough of those threads as it is. We hardly need to give anyone a reason to start making more of them. I say let's wait until next month until we go into a "well the PS3 is selling on par with the Wii." Even though I know everyone (including myself) is tired of the whole "Wii is out of stock" thing, it's the way it is, and I believe that's the only reason the numbers are so close. Especially when you look WW and how the Wii is outselling the PS3 around two to one. I won't comment on Microsoft saying they are having supply issues. They're the bad business practice of making 10 SKUs and then making the wrong ones. Hopefully as more supply is shipping in Feb we'll be able to see where sales are.

Regardless of all the shortages and what not. Sony impressed.

Also, give me a break about NPD undertracking Walmart. Last month, ioi said the NPD could been overtracking it!

NDP put a TON of weight into walmart during the holiday and then seems to have taken way down now, I am just saying the % of sales for Wii from "casual" stores does not differ as much(% wise) as do the sales for the HD consoles(core gamers).

Also the toy r uses near me have been getting large shipments weekly, they could easily be undertracked. Do not forget ioi was closer for the Wii in Decemeber than NDP was... ioi adjusted for NDP, then when the fiscal came it prove ioi!!! had the better number... NDP sux... what makes me mad is that now we have to wait til march to confirm ioi again..



End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Wow. Sales seem to be poor for Nintendo and Microsoft but PS3 is surprising... I believe this is the closest its ever come to catching the Wii in terms of sales.
