Forums - Nintendo - 3DS update

I saw the article that the update for 3DS went live today and so I called Nintendo to dbl check some of the info and get some answers to questions that I have.

I just bought the Zelda XL bundle, so now have two 3DS.  Here's what I was hoping I could do.

Since one is smaller and easier for on the go or travel, while the other, although still not very cumbersome, is better for home gaming imo; I wanted to make them exact copies of each other and be able to use one or the other as I pleased as it seemed fit.

Sadly, my daydream is not to be.  After two conversations with folks at Nintendo I've learned that your Nintendo Network ID can only be linked to one Wii U and one 3DS, and that not only does the system transfer eliminate the data on the original source 3DS, instead of just simply copying it to a second unit...the Nintendo rep I talked to claims that the system transfer can still only be done a maximum of 5 times, and not the unlimited as the article states.

Has anyone else been wanting to do the same or similiar to what I was hoping, and if so, what did you end up doing or what would you recommend?

This is only a problem if you buy digital. If you buy digital, sucks then. Even though Nintendo only allows one system of each to be on the NNID, it's stupid they only allow a maximum of five data transfers.

The rep you talked to was wrong.

The Nintendo information directly states they removed the 5 transfer policy, not some article.

However, yes the limitation of using NNID on more than one portable+home console is annoying.

Nintendo needs to open this up to be some small number of devices at once, like every other digital based hardware.

I could actually see the argument with a 3DS as it should be a personal device. But you should be allowed 2 or 3 home consoles.

Here's Nintendo's actual release notes for the update.

Well I just got my NNID and looks like you can't get on the Nintendo Eshop right now. Probably because 10 million 3DS owners and four Wii U owners are trying to access it at once.

Edit: nevermind lol

Edit 2: Now the real thing I'm wondering is why OP says the limit hasn't been removed, but no source I'm seeing is turning up with anyone confirming this.  As far as it seems, the limit has been removed.

The eShop severs are going to be down until 8 p.m. Pacifc time tonight, according to Nintendo.

thanks for the link Chunk.

I guess with unlimited transfers, it isn't quite as much a dilemma.  Just a nuisance, and it can only be done once every week?  I guess I don't fully understand what the system transfer does and what is included, or more importantly...what isn't.

So the deluxe digital thing seems to be still going on on my Wii U even though it's been a year. can I buy 3DS eShop games and use the points on my Wii U? I'm like $4 short of getting another $5 but the only thing I want is Arkham Origins DLC on Wii U. There's a couple of 3DS eShop titles I'd like.
