Forums - Sales - Prediction? WiiU under 1m for the full year in US

Will WiiU sell under 1m in the US this year?

Yes! 75 34.72%

No! 140 64.81%

Total:215

Undertracking.....overtracking...
digital sales....
Discrepancy between charts...

It seems that nothing in this industry is definitive or even 80 % correct when talking about sales. I have the feeling that we are dealing with speculative data all the time, specially after Ubisoft announcement of 1 million Rayman Legends copies sold, when the charts show that it barely sold 340k ALL VERSIONS COMBINED.

I give up.

Isn't Wii U doing worse than Dreamcast? 1m for this year is a bit too much.

I don't think so, but it's close either way.

Regardless, such comparisons are silly anyway, because it's not going to continue selling like the DC anyway.

What? That's nothing more then wishful thinking.

Very true. But the DC sold only 8.2mil WW LT, and the Wii U is at half of that right now. So why wouldn't it outsell it? I don't see anyone suggesting anything like the Wii U won't double it's sales from this point in it's lifetime.

And if it outsells the DreamCast, it's got to be selling better than it. That's kinda my logic here.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

WiiU will outsell Dreamcast (everywhere) but it's at 10.2m and 4.5m~ in the states. Will take WiiU till 2015, worst case scenario 2016.

Really depends on NPD but it is a reasonable prediction.

True, it would appear as though the advantage the Wii U has at this point is the "Rest Of World" sales, and the US was the strongest market for the DC. Summer 2015 would be my guess, but still...it's depressing to think it'll take that long.

Hmm, in the long run it doesn't look like it, US was 45%~ on DC sales, WiiU is about 60% (currently I mean) LTD is probably around the same.

Meh Id say 2 mil, there will be another price cut boosting sales some, and I have actually seen WiiU commercials. For the next year upcoming.

WiiU was just adjusted down by ~40k in NA it seems. Will be interesting to see if it will be adjusted down again after NPD

Not to mention a likely 100k or more in Europe. All console get adjustments but when the numbers are already this low it looks a lot worse.

I wonder what will happen in the UNITY thread after NPD. Probably nothing.

Terrible. Nintendo didn't deserve this. Well, they sort of do, but still.

I know for eight years Nintendo tried to avoid going head-on against Sony and Microsoft, but after the one-in-a-lifetime Wii success, wouldn't they be better off releasing a standard console? The multiplats could more than make up for the gimmicky controls.

... and Pachters 149k prediction?! (Yes I know it's Pachter, and just a prediction) made me think.

Well, looks like Pachter (and certain members here) have some crow to eat. Wii U at about 220k, more than 50% more than Pachter's prediction. Wii U selling faster than Dreamcast in November in the US. And based on given numbers, Wii U should need about 380k in December to reach 1 million for the year - based on general sales trends in systems' second holidays, this should be easy to achieve (to see what I mean, look at that Wii U vs GC vs DC graph - notice how, in the second year, both systems saw significant increases in sales in December vs November - and Wii U has more momentum now than either system had).
