I honestly think internet trolled it self.

Nintendo just wanted to show their next launch, and people started to talk about new IPs, zelda and Metroid.

They most likely still showed up so they could show off something small instead of putting it into a Direct.

If it was small enough they didn't want to put it in a Direct, I'm not sure why they would have thought a live broadcast award show was a better place to premier it.

Because this "awards" show wasn't all too big of an event either. Didn't people start saying that the viewership sharply dropped off when Nintendo was done? And especially when the "concert" started.

I wouldn't know. I didn't watch, and the only reason I even heard about it in the first place was that people were talking about the fact Nintendo was making an announcement.

Well at least most people on twitter now heard of Donkey Kong :)   might generate some sales lol

All it proved to me is that people are itching for a new Metroid and Zelda like no other franchises. If all Reggie has to do is wear a tiny 8 bit Samus pin to get the internet talking, then I feel really bad for Sony and Microsoft spending millions on marketing to do the same thing. The Cranky spoilers ruined it for me but it was still a pretty cool announcement for DK fans. I was actually more impressed by the 2nd level they showed then I was by Cranky. Once they do drop Metroid and Zelda people are going to go nuts. This is why Rockstar waited a while to release GTA V. If you make people wait and in the meantime produce a great game, the payoff will be ridiculous, and I really don't know why companies are not doing this.

I don`t think Nintendo`s actions were based on that kind of thinking.
They know DK can appeal to VGX`s audience; it has - i suppose - a big audience, so those things mash well together.

They didn`t promise anything they didn`t deliver: "a new look at an upcoming game".
We just ignored that.
I admit that at first - given Geoff`s "world premiere" line i went that way too. But after reading some comments, i realised it couldn`t be, so my bets were on X or B2.

I think it will.  DKCR sold 6 million and the 3DS one is at 900,000 and that was just a straight port.   For as much as I love Metroid, all 3 prime games combined did'nt even sell 6 million, and the only Zeldas to outsell DKCR were Ocarina and Twilight Princess.  DK has a bigger fanbase then people give it credit for.

This is becoming a bit like watching a case of Stockholm syndrome.
