Forums - General - Some soldiers didn't surrender until 30 years after WW2 ended!!!

This reminds me of my refusal to surrender to the PS2 during the 6th gen war. I'm still holding out hope, and fighting every day until the original Xbox is victorious!

Only 140 million or so more console sales to go! We got this!

i find it admirable. And i find it less admirable that you talk so about your ancestors. But thats just my opinion.

I think the japanese and the british are the only one who still honor and think about their fallen soldiers..

I find it much more bad that no1 ever remembers their fallen heros or even talk them bad.
Ofc Nazi Germany did crimes. But really betraying you own fallen soldiers??
Also does the USA still celebrater their world war 2 fallen heros??

every day in belgium there is a band still making music for the english soldiers. japanese are still thanking fallen soldiers.

Well I guess you're not familiar with how brutal the Japanese soldiers were in WW2, especially against the Chinese.  In the Nanking Massacre, Japanese soldiers would cut open pregnant women and stick the fetus on their bayonets and parade around the street.  They would rape babies and 80 year old ladies.  They committed some of the most horrifying atrocities in history of mankind.  In the Manilla Massacre, not only did they rape the women, they raped the men and children too.

And then there was Unit 731 which was part of the Japanese army.  This is a video produced by the History Channel, if you didn't know about Unit 731, this will completely blow your mind, and is one of the reasons that I feel ashamed sometimes of having Japanese heritage:

And after watching that video, you can then see why when Japanese officials visit the Yasukuni war shrine, China and South Korea get so outraged about it.

I dont know wasnt there the american movie about tibet. Where chinese soldiers said because of Mao People ate their own babies???

Seriously ofc those crimes are horrible and i like chinese people, but thats human nature that stuff happens all the time?? what did the mongols do to the han chinese?? what did the han chinese do the different tribes before that?? didnt the dai have to flew to Vietnam, but they were lucky, i havent studied chinese history but i believe i read in a book that an entire race disapeared from the face of earth in China.
What did shang Kai check or what was his name and his enemy Mao do??
Did you know that Shang Kai check was acting like a Mafia Boss in China and Mao Killed millions of people???
Its sad and its bad. still you should honor your fallen soldiers. BEcause no mater what they are did they are still you ancestors.

Besides I still believe the opium war was much more devestating, and no1 screams the evil opium war.

USA is also pretty hardcore about that stuff

Canada treats their veterans with a great deal of respect too.

Personally, much more for the WWII era stuff more than modern wars. No one has a beef with Canada, and we don't play anywhere near as an important role in modern warfare as we used to. I feel like if you join the Canadian army now, you're just asking for trouble. Sucks if you die but what did you expect? You went out of your way to choose to do this.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

you know Shang Kai Shek tortured Mao supporters and Mao lied to people who supported him. What happened to people who supported Mao? he killed nearly the entire intelligencia.

dont get me wrong i find china fascinating, there people are very loyal. I heard chinese businessman you can rely on their word alone (not all of course but the good ones)

But still you must be objective

As we're coming up on the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, here's something that most people here probably didn't know about...

There were these Japanese soldier holdouts who refused to surrender after WW2 ended and continued fighting, some for a very long time.
Check out this article about these crazy holdouts who refused to surrender:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_holdout

Some of them didn’t believe that the war was over, so they continued fighting for 10, 20 years and even longer, in remote parts of Pacific islands. They ended up fighting local police long after the U.S. military left.

And then there was this guy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroo_Onoda

You think that’s normal behavior for a soldier?
I mean there was a lot of indoctrination in the Japanese army, but how in the world could a soldier think that the war is still going on after over 30 years? Has any war in modern history lasted that long? What was he thinking?

Japanese holdouts (残留日本兵 Zanryū nipponhei?, "remaining Japanese soldiers") or stragglers were Japanese soldiers in the Pacific Theatre who, after the August 1945 surrender of Japan ending World War II, either adamantly doubted the veracity of the formal surrender due to strong dogmatic or militaristic principles, or simply were not aware of it because communications had been cut off by the United States island hopping campaign.

Wouldn't exactly call it a band playing. And The Last Post isn't only for the brits.

Here is a vid of rememberance day nov 11. And this is done every day since 1928 to remember WW1 soldiers.

oh yes it was world war one. Anyway i thought it was in remembrance of the british soldiers and paid by the brits. My Memory is not the best

If you are ultra-nationalist then nothing short of winning is good enough for them. For them, it's literally "my country, right or wrong".
Also, it seems to be difficult for any soldier to return to a peaceful life. War causes huge psychological problems

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

It is a testament to how deep the "Kokutai" indoctrination system took root in some individuals.
