For example, Grid 2 is still $60, while I can get it on Amazon or Gamestop for $40.

or on ps+ for free.

yes, sony is gettting better.

Contrary to popular belief, games we acquire via PS+ are not in fact free, because PS+ itself is not free.

Contrary to your statement, this is how people use the word "free". If you stay at a hostel, they sometimes give you a "free" breakfast voucher. They don't say, "here's a voucher which is included in the initial price you paid. You'll continue receiving these vouchers as long as you stay here, but they're not free, because you paid for them".  They'll say "here's a free voucher".

"Bu, bu, but you don't get to keep your games".  They also give you "free" internet/access to their wifi. When you leave, you can no longer use it. Yes, they call it "free". Same with countless other things. It's just the way the word is used.

Actually I work front desk at a hotel, we say that we have "Open wifi" and "Complimentary breakfast" included

Good for you! I travel all the time because of work (giving papers at different uni across Europe) and most of them use the word "free" (definitely in 2 places in London and one in Dublin).

So based on your logic of literal dollars spent.  Let's say Grid 2 was 60$ on PSN, and you were interested in buying it but haven't got around to it due to PS4 and whatnot.  If it then is free for + users, Sony is literally paying you 10$ to use their service for a year if you never touched any other benefit, so it is actually better than free.

Honestly Sony has been far ahead of the competition in the Digital space since 2011 (Besides Steam lol). Day 1 digital, pre-order extras, some pre-loading, play as you download in TLoU, and PS+ sales that rival steam sale prices. MS isn't close, and Nintendo is still competing with the PS2 in terms of online viability lol.

You guys are all missing the point. My post didn't have anything to do with the fact that Grid 2 is now on PS+. This thread isn't really about the vallue of PS+, it's about Sony's digital pricing. Perhaps my point would be better made with the game Sly Cooper: Theives in Time, for the PS3. This game is currently on the PSN for $40. However, Amazon, Gamestop, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart all have the game listed at $20 (and this game you can't defend by saying it's on PS+, because it's not). I've noticed this pattern for many games on the PSN store. From this I conclude that prices on the PSN do not keep up with retail prices.
This is the point I was trying to make.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
