microsoft can afford it i guess is the difference,i don't think the xone will suffer like the ps3 in launch price

but blu-ray was a selling point for me as i wanted HD movies as i'm sure it was fo some others too back 6 years,not everyone is like people you know

There isn't a single game that absolutely needed Bluray. A few disc swaps could have made the PS3 as successful as PS2.

Yea they both are things that will or have become big deals. The features that kinect brings will be something that we all utilize in the next few years imo and blue ray has made its point.

Yes.  Blu-Ray was to be and became the standard HD playback format universal amongst optical playback manufactures.  Motion and voice control via Kinect is only the standard for the Xbox One.

Its pretty safe to argue that Blu-Ray would not have become the standard had it not been included in PS3's.

Microsoft is trying to make voice and visual interaction in home entertainment environment's standard in exactly the same way (and trying to lead it of course).


If there were any reasons to this it was probably because it was the best Blu-ray player for a time while costing less than the competing standalone player.  So far, only Microsoft has been buying into Kinect, and so far, it still is only microsoft.

Thanks for the history lesson. I understand why they used Bluray and their big motivation was profits.

Bluray didn't do much if anything to actually improve the game experience and consumers had to shell a lot more money to have it. Something they may have not wanted or asked for.

You say Kinect is a dumb device nobody wants, yet motion technology like Kinect is growing. Not only did the original Kinect sell 20+ million units, Apple appears to be going the same direction now that they own PrimeSense.

Motion technology is growing... but to the contrary, physical movie sales are dwindling. DWINDLING!

Your bias is showing.

I feel making PS3 more expensive just so you can watch sharper movies is dumb. Many consumers agreed and that's why the 360 was so successful.

You had the option to buy the bad Kinect on 360. Only the good Kinect is actually forced.

People clearly hated Bluray for making the PS3 more expensive. Sales reflected that.

There are things I like about Bluray, but that doesn't mean it made the PS3 worth $600. Sales relected my feelings.

I agree, Kinect should be optional and I have a feeling it will be eventually. However, Kinect will likely have more impact on X1 games than Bluray ever had on PS3 games.
