Well there are a few holes in your version of logic, first storage has no benefits (or the benefits are negligible...)

 - A lot of games would still fit on CD size media, otherwise, we could always swap when we reach a certain area, does that mean that DVDs are useless too?

Also, there were a lot of other factors that drove up the price of the PS3 at launch, compared to the xbox 1

 - The sd card slots (nothing of the king on the 360)

- Built-in Wi-fi (that was an add-on on the 360)

 - The cell processor was pretty big and difficult to manufacture (it had other issues too, but that one drove up the price of the console)

 - 4 USB ports

However the kinect on xb1 not only does not provide benefots to most people, it alienate a lot of potential clients (not only that, but the performance delta between the 360 and ps3 was negligible compared to the difference between the ps4 and xb1).targeting webkit browsers

Is anyone conveniently overlooking the fact that all three 8th gen consoles are using BD format optical media for publishing games?

Yes, even the Wii U is using a proprietary violet laser drive based upon BD technology, developed by Panasonic, one of the developers of BD.

So... it wasn't okay for the PS3 to have a BD drive and now it's okay that the XB1 has one? Or would XB1 buyers or potential buyers rather have their games published on multiple DVDs or have to download significant portions of their retail games if MS could drop the price of their package by $20, $50, $10 because BD is not necessary?

So we're supposed to be against any device that uses technology before it becomes industry standard. This is what I'm taking from the above opinion.

Really? BD drive are cheaper and faster now. When the PS3 came out they simply cost too much and there slower read speed compared to the DVD was a problem.

The cost and read speed problem out weight the benefit of extra storage, better video and sound quality.

Using the same logic of the OP... prove how have the Bluray impacted negatively on the games for PS3.

Put cars on a second disc. Problem solved!

GT5 had a massive install to speed up load times.

Pick your poison.

I didn't cared about the Install...

And puting the cars on a second disc... do you have any info on how many Gbs all the cars data have??? Because GT5 is a double density BD, And I'm certainly that not only 8.7Gb are from cars... maybe you would like the Idea to have one disc for cars of each continent, and them you swap them depending on the brand you choose to play...

And about BD for the new gen... If it is now a good option (and for PS3 it wasn't), how you justify installing 35~50Gb per game??? To install of this size DVD would be a lesser problem than on the previous gen.

But I see people thinking its the biggest thing for the Xbone being a media player and kinect being it central comand, but I can't think of PS3 media capabilities without BD...

And now I'll bring one point no one brought... PS3 BD is region free =].

No, it makes sense to use Bluray now because larger storage is a necessity and the technology is cheap.

Sony wasn't pushing Bluray to make games better per se, they just wanted some royalties and used their Playstation fanbase.

In return, they lost much of audience from PS2 and Xbox grew.

PS3 had amazing games that wouldn't have been possible on regular archaic DVDs without imposing mandatory HUGE installs (a big NO since HDDs used to be 120GB or smaller for a long while).

It was the price of the console, PS3 could of release the console for 100$ cheaper if it wasn't for the BluRay. It impacted negatively the sales of the console.

Sony incurred a massive lose because of the desicion to include a Bluray. The Ps3 would still be a great gaming console had they gone with DVD.
