Everyone has their personal primary reasons to visit this site. I assume most people come because they're interested in the sales and/or discussing games. Those used to be my primary reasons for visiting as well. However, after over three years, I have found that my interests have changed. I enjoy the website mostly when comedy is involved or when I’m debating with someone else. I find I don’t care about sales much anymore and who really talks about games on this site anyway? However, the entertainment of humor and the intellectual stimulation from debates will always appeal to me.
The problem is this new generation is bringing a change in the industry, and thus, a change in what to debate. Most of the debates I have been in were against an Xbox fan or a Nintendo fan. Obviously, this was partially because I noticed poor arguments from those types of fans rather than Playstation fans, because of my own bias. But it was also because Xbox fans and Nintendo fans had a sales advantage over Playstation. This gave many of them confidence to undermine the Playstation because it was weak at the time; and whenever one of them slipped, I would relish in the opportunity to point it out.
But now, the Wii U is obviously not going to be as strong as the PS4; and the Xbox One isn’t going to beat the PS4 like the 360 was (temporarily) beating the PS3 last generation. Because of this shift in power, there is going to be a dramatically lower amount of people picking on the PS4. Now, my pool of potential opponents is going to be much lower since other fans aren’t going to have as much ammunition to attack the Playstation 4 with. There will of course be the extremely unreasonable fans who ignore all proof, yet still blindly argue in favor of their favorite company; but I never quite enjoyed arguing with those people as much as people who were at least somewhat reasonable.
The primary reason I don't like the new generation is because of the nature of the arguments I would be in. As a Playstation supporter last generation, most of my arguments were defending the brand. However, this gen, I likely wouldn't be defending the brand since less people would attack it; rather, I would likely have to attack other brands. Unfortunately, this isn't the type of argument I'm interested in. I prefer to defend rather than attack. I suppose a possible solution would be to debate against the inevitable flood of overconfident and misguided Sony fans, but this is not an option. I don't enjoy arguing against Playstation because I am biased.
Side note: Earlier this year, I noticed the shift in power, so I created an alt called Rudisha. My intention was to use that alt to behave as an Xbox version as myself, attacking the Playstation fans. But that plan quickly got out of hand as I had too much fun trolling.
tl:dr – The Xbox/Nintendo brand probably aren’t going to beat the Playstation brand at least temporarily this generation. This means there will be less overconfident and misguided Xbox/Nintendo fans for me to debate against. This makes me sad.
