"The Wii U has been having a rough time lately, with the announcement that both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 have out-sold it in some regions in just a few week’s time. Still, that hasn’t dampened Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime’s enthusiasm, as he believes the Wii u stands a good chance against Microsoft and Sony’s new competitors this holiday season.

“We rate our chances very good. Software drives hardware in this business. We see it time and time again. We saw it with our Wii and DS businesses. We’re seeing it right now with Nintendo 3DS.

Of course Reggie is referring to the already available Super Mario 3D World, which received critical acclaim, as well as upcoming titles like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Yarn Yoshi.

“Software drives hardware. And we’re having a stellar year. We believe the same will happen with our Wii U business, with these fantastic franchises that we’re bringing to bear this holiday. If you look at the last two hardware cycles, it was not the most powerful machine that won, not in the case of the PS2, not in the case of the Wii. So, in the end, it’s our responsibility to show consumers how much fun you can have, because in the end, this is an entertainment business, and we think we’ve got stellar entertainment to make the consumer smile.”

Of course Reggie’s job is to remain optimistic about the Wii U, but what do you think? Will sales of the console pick up as we move into the new year?"

I think the biggest mistake aside from the marketing blunder was that they assumed gamers wanted to control things with a Ipad substitute.

I'm surprised that Yarn Yoshi was mentioned. Perhaps the game will release sooner than expected?

What is he supposed to say? He's just doing his job, you have to put a good spin on the situation that's your role as far as PR goes.

I go from one thread saying the Wii U won't be around next Holiday, to one saying Wii U will dominate this holiday.

An interesting time in the world of video games, I must say.

Also, the poll should have the 3DS included. Because that's the answer.
