He said his power indicator light turns orange in standby mode, which is what you've highlighted. There is nothing to setup, you simply select "Enter Standby Mode".

He needs setup the Standby mode.

"If there are no checkmarks set in the settings under (Settings) > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Standby Mode], the system turns off completely."

If not it will just turn off.

So the PS4 UI is a convoluted mess just like the PS3? It literally took me 10 minutes to figure out how to sync a bluetooth headset to PS3 when I bought one.  Stanby mode should be automatically selected.

no its quite simple. and if it took you 10 minutes to set up bluetooth, that is your fault. it shouldnt take anybody more than a minute.

and if navigating a Cross is dificult for you, there's perhaps something wrong with you. either that, or your lying. because the xmb just may be the easiest thing to navigate, since there arent many layers/folders, its layed out in a Cross shape. scroll up/down, left/right.

also its extremely easy to go into standby mode, the PS4 just gives you options on what you want it to do in standby mode. like activate USB ports, stay connected to the internet, being able to remotely turn it on from the internet. if you dont want some of those features on, you can turn it off.

its extremely simple.

I'm a computer graphics major and the XMB is a piece of trash. I would be embarrased if It was in my portfolio. It is not intuitive in any way. Thankfully the PS4 UI looks much improved.

Sorry, it was kupomogli who posted the video.

After reviewing some other videos on Youtube, it seems that people are experiencing different results. Some videos show a 5-10 sec boot from standby, and some show a 15-20 boot.

I hope Sony fix that fast.

its not fancy or flashy, but its extremely easy to navigate.

The video you posted earlier of the PS4 starting from standby mode is not accurate. It takes about 15-20 seconds to reach the login screen from standby mode.

Video? I didn't posted video.

This site is lying too? http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/171469-ps4-vs-xbox-one-side-by-side-speed-test-to-decide-which-console-is-faster-video

They are inline with what I saw... ~20s is the cold boot.

The standby time is flawed. They didn't sign in on the PS4 to go to the actual dashboard. Xbox One boots up and recognizes the player in 12 seconds. I just timed it.

I only tried it with Ryse and DR3.

I got a little over 3 minutes on both.

I probably got a good working xbox one.

Plus i have friends that own one too and they tell me their installs are pretty fast too. Similar to their ps4 so i guess kotaku has a bad xbox.

Ryse and DR3 installs are fast... the multiplatform games are like the Kotaku showed... I saw the FIFA 14 install on Xbone and it takes over 5 minutes to start to play.... PS4 less than 1 minute.

Eh, 15 minutes is a long time... but compared to the PS3's it's like a dream. Never actually used my 360 enough to download anything on it.

If anything i'd say the story is the PS4 is really fast at getting you into the game, not that the Xbone's installs take too long.

Not as sensationalistic, but more accurate i'd say.

Yes it is easy to navigate and that is the only thing easy about it. Too many items hidden away in menus. It is not intuitive at all. Unless you know exactly where to look it takes a long time for certain things to get set up.

Both the Xbox One and PS4 require all games to be installed from the disc, due to the increasing size of games and the relatively low speed of optical drives. So both consoles have a feature that allows you to launch a game as soon as enough content is installed to begin running it, while the rest of the data continues to install in the background. Our test was how long it takes to launch the game from the time you insert a disc, with a normal console connected to the internet.

We tested six multiplatform games on both consoles and every time, the PS4 was under a minute while the Xbox One install was several minutes long and required downloading an update before beginning the installation. When you include downloading those updates for each Xbox One game that happen in the background on PS4, the install times can get as high as fifteen minutes before you can even launch the game.

How Long Your First Install Will Take On PS4 And Xbox OneP

Assassin's Creed IV:
Xbox One (offline, no update): 5 minutes 50 seconds
Xbox One (with update, fastest connection): 7 minutes 2 seconds
Xbox One (with update, 10Mbps connection): 10 minutes 32 seconds
PS4: 42 secondsP

The rest of these were tested on our office Wi-Fi which is around 9-11Mbps. It may have been faster on a wired connection, but you can compare your own connection speed here. These are our results:P

Need For Speed Rivals:
XBO: 09:25 (including update)
PS4: 00:32P

Just Dance 2014:
XBO: 08:48 (including update)
PS4: 00:45P

NBA Live 14:
XBO: 16:26 (including update)
PS4: 00:35P

FIFA 14:
XBO: 16:06 (including update)
PS4: 00:34P

Madden 25:
XBO: 9:38 (including update)
PS4: 00:38

AC4 632 42 15.0
NFSR 565 32 17.7
JD14 528 45 11.7
NBL14 986 35 28.2
Fifa14 966 34 28.4
Madden25 578 38 15.2
Total 4255 226 18.8
Median 605 36.5 16.6

So, on average, initial XB1 installation takes 19 times that of PS4. Likewise, the median game will take 17 times as long. This is just way too much. This is not a performance comparison; this is a feature comparison, or the lack of it on XB1 obviously. PS4 does streamline the installation / caching process, XB1 doesn't. It just installs in "stages", single player first etc...

When he starts playing the bare minimum was installed. I assume the xbox one install more of the game detail before it lets you play it.
