I was just thinking how much would it cost Sony to put a PS3 inside the PS4. by that i mean hardware backwards compatibility.
the PS3 currently costs $200, and will be sold for $150 during its Brack Friday Bunduru. so it doesnt seem like it costs that much to build nowadays.
And with many components being redundant, therefor not needed the costs should be reduced even more. By this i mean, if the PS3 hardware was inside the PS4, it wouldnt need a bluray drive, a hard drive, usb ports, wifi chip, the casing itself, etc. since the PS4 already has those, nor would it need to come with a DS3, since it already has the DS4. you also need not worry about shipping costs, retail cut, etc.
So how much would it cost to have the ps3 architecture (cell, rsx, etc, what ever is needed to run games) inside the PS4 so it can play PS3 games?
would it cost $75, $100, $125, $150, or more. based off of absolutely nothing, just a guess, it seems like it would cost less than $100
SO if the BOM for PS4 is around $380, i would think the BOM for PS4 with PS3 would be ~$470.
Do you think thats accurate, do you think they could sell it for $500. i would certainly be interested in buying a backwards compatible PS4 for "just" $500, even $550.
