sounds to me like you got into an arguement with a total idiot. lol

or he is somehow trying to justify himself and his choice of console

He's a PC guy, my worry was that he was a 'technophile", where graphics matter more than gameplay (the PC Technophile is a well-established stereotype).  But no, he said he didn't care about graphics, and that he had an old, outdated rig.

Well my guess is he is somehow trying to justify not buying one then.  He likes games and PC has a wide variety, and his "it would be stupid to buy it for one game"  hes not just telling you that, hes reaffirming his choice, that just because he saw a game he liked he shouldnt buy it lol  he probably likes one of the launch games but hes hiding being cheap lol

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

Without console exclusivity or a console war the customer would lose out if the console were monopolized by one company they would sell console at a much high retail price. There would be less focus on adding extra contents and increase overall game quality. We the customer dictate overall quality and expectation with our buying habits and our tolerance level for particular retail price.

I think cloud gaming will soon change the landscape of the gaming industry, Instead of Console war, you will have software and peripheral (controllers and any other add-ons devices) war. The focus would finally switch to where it truly always been software.

He probably meant that the few exclusive franchises are basically the same game over again. Both consoles have virtually identical libraries.
These few exclusive are not really a big enough reason to determine the consoles as different from each other as hardware is almost the same.

Thats what i got from your text anyway.
Seems like a strange argument to have.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

You probably should have started with the fact he was high. I was just as confused as you are until I read that last line.

I've seen this kind of argument made a lot, and it's almost always PC gamers. I think people like that don't want to acknowledge the reality of the gaming industry.

TOO MUCH TO READ!

I skimmed, and have to say you're buying a console for the games, not the hardware. Bickering aside a PS4/One or a PS3/360 are technically similar. Neither system will noticably outperform the other.

So what do you have left? The games. I personally own pretty much every console, and it's because of the exclusives. If MS's IP's were all available on PC, then I likely would never own a Microsoft console.

However.......his point about buying a console for 1 game is an important one. Right now PS4/One will only have 1 or 2 appealing exclusives for new console buyers, so the bulk of the reason to upgrade ATM is console loyalty, or just a love of 1 game. I know I bought a 360 largely because of Gears of War, which was an awesome game, but buying a system for that game wasn't really worth it. So if your friend is saying that you should buy a console NOW for the specs, that makes sense because none of us know the games which will release in the next 8 years or so.

So if anything, I think you're friend is saying buy a PS4 over a One because it's more powerful and cheaper. So what One has Titanfall, you don't know what exclusives PS4 will get in the future.....that's what I understand, and I kinda agree.

I was going to say that your friend sounds like a dyed in the wool PC gamer which would explain why he hates console exclusives. No other explanation need be given.

Naturally, anyone who invests their money into a decent custom gaming PC, or more of their money to build a high end PC is going to be a bit peeved when their box can't play certain games. So the typical response will either be to attack the policy of using certain games to sell consumers on proprietary hardware systems, or to simply attack the games themselves in an attempt to invalidate their value.

I'm not really sure where your friend is coming from if he's using an old, outdated PC. That said, $400 wouldn't buy much PC if one had to start from scratch, so if anything, a console would look like the better option, assuming it was only being used for games (unlikely), unless said individual had a sizable library of games on Steam or any other PC game service.

Of course it still boils down to the games any individual tends to play. If all someone played was WoW or LoL, any console would be a pretty big waste of time and money.

I had the strangest arguments about videogames today.

I get it, games are weird, people have strange opinions, and the console wars are at their worst again with the release of the PS4 and Xbox One, but man, I've really heart it all when arguing the merits and values of them.

I got into a mini-argument with a friend of mine about the value of exclusives on consoles, and I'm still not 100% what his point was, or what his assertion was. The argument started out when I said I had a PS4 but wanted an Xbox One but couldn't justify it. He replied with: “Aside from 1-2 exclusives coming out in the next YEAR, they're almost the identical same console. Hardware wise they ARE the same”. I did argue the contrary, saying that the differences in spec types (GDDR5 vs DDR3 Ram, etc) and the features (Kinect, Vita stuff) made a difference, but the REAL reason to get one console over the other was the games. The exclusive games. I said, “If history is any indication, the PS4's exclusive list with be far better.”

Your friend was very strange.

But you also appear to have started out with some faulty assumptions.  For example, metacritic weighting of top exclusives on both consoles in the ending generation stipulate that there are more console exclusives 90+ on the Xbox 360 than the PS3 - something that becomes more pronounced once you remove remakes and HD collections.

Whilst there is of course a subjective element to all this, you used the terminology 'will be far better,' when of course recent history displays nothing of the sort.  Possibly, you were referring to the Playstation 2 versus the Xbox. However, given your confusing messaging and apparently inaccurate statements, it is unsurprising that the conversation devolved quickly from there.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

That's ridiculous. You can't get Mario on PS4 and Xbox One, Halo on Wii U and PS4, and Killzone on Wii U and Xbox One. That guy was being pretty stupid.

I'm going to assume that he meant the exclusive list will be bigger and more varied. Moreover, if you only look at game with 90+ on Metacritic, you'd be leaving out a buttload of great PS3 exclusives (like Demon's Souls, which is at 89), which should still be factored in.
