Forums - Microsoft - I love the Xbox One controller but there are two things that bother me..

1) The directional pad still has some issues: If a person who is graduating from Playstation needs to use the D-Pad, the placement still feels awkward for fighting games because of the trading of positions of the offset sticks. This puts the D-Pad in a secondary position. Having played Killer Instinct, which I loved it the controller wasn't properly form fitted for the thumbs. It felt like the the buttons had specific grooves and it forces your hand to slide rather than guide itself in the direction you completely want it to. Granted this is nowhere near the sliding issue that the last gen 360 had, its a huge step so kudos to Microsoft for fixing it. I am much more comfortable using it but it still gets annoying when either you are used to the Playstation controller and are forced to convert to the Xbox One or come from an arcade stick background.

2) The top buttons are too close to one another: To be specific the stacking order of the controllers are awkward. They need to be separated because it forces you to mainly play just with your index fingers on all of the top buttons rather than someone such as myself who is used to using my middle finger and index finger for the bumpers and triggers simultaneously. Your finger slides off and theres barely a groove in between them. It feels like your finger is falling down a mountainous slope. This is a step down from the 360's groove where you felt like you could attack all of the top buttons at once based on instinct.

Here  is a picture to show you what I mean:

Outside of that the I actually like the handling better on all of the other parts of the controller based on the overal mold. It has almost a boomerag feeling when you hold onto it. The pictures wont suffice for that, but if you hold it you'll see what i mean. The fact that my fingers dont feel the batter pack like the 360's controller makes me feel even more in control through. :)

Yeah I asked a friend who managed to get his, and the bumpers was his complaint

^Yes that's me ripping it up in the GIF. :)

If you could connect a 360 controller to the x 1, which controller would you use?

Yeah, if they remodel the Xbox One those bumpers and directional pad need to be worked on.

Fighters and racers: Xbone.

Shooters and everything else: 360

If you use the directional pads for games and are used to playing on the Playstation the directional pad placement feels offset and secondary to the rest of the controller. Its weird.

I love it personally and the dpads placement is great. Unfortunately I still am meh at KI and I hate playing against people who are super good -_- lol

I wasn't joking when I told everyone KI has a high barrier of entry. It's a friendly game to learn with the new system put in place, but it takes time to master if you're new to the style. Its super competitive, so even if you know combo-breakers people whom are good will still tear away at you. On veteran it has the most cut throat AI I've seen in a fighting game and even worse on a harder setting. The reason I am at odds slightly with the D Pad outside of the molding of the Dpad is the positioning of it which puts it in a secondary position. This is where the PS4 controller has a huge leg up on the Xbone controller.

My complaint or annoyance is the bumpers also. I have to get used to them. The D-Pad was a bitch but only because of my nail. It was getting in the way so I chopped the som bitch off

Would you not class the dpad as a secondary part of gaming now? Apart from fighting games all I can think it gets used for is inventory/character switching or activating abilities and equipment.

Off topic a bit, but I'm having a few minor issue with the DS4
