2. Some people don't have enough money to get to a gym. 3. Some people work strange hours making it difficult to get to the gym. 4. Some people like video games, and like working out, and therefore being able to combine the two into the limited free time they have. 5. Wii Fit is more fun than typical excercise, and some people need a spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down. 6. Some people have never worked out regularly and need an easy or low impact routine to get into it. 7. Some people like to supplement heavier workouts with lighter ones on off days. 8. Not all activities are balance related. Push ups for instance are push ups. 9. The balance board is an incredibly accurate scale, and that alone is worth about 50 bucks. 10. Some people legitimately need to work on their balance. 11. With the balance board you can use Wii Fit while watching TV instead of just sitting. 12. Some people are busy and do not have a gym nearby. Lots of great reasons to use Wii Fit. You may not get it, and it may not be for you, but don't make the egocentric assumption that "not for you" means "bad product". |
wow, great summary. I got one for my mom and she is having some fun while losing a few pounds. I am definitely going to give it a try.

Not that I think Wii fit is a bad thing but its motivating people to perform basic exercises they just wouldn`t do on their own without a tv telling them what to do, some people need that. But the marketing of Wii fit tried to turn it into some miracle cure for overweight which is plain stupid. A chair can give you a better workout. |
When did they do that? I can't remember anything Nintendo put out (besides maybe Wii Fit girl) that presented Wii Fit as a miracle cure. Most of Nintendo's PR focussed on balance, posture, and overall lifestyle changes. I can't really remember any sensationalism coming from Nintendo's camp.

It's a good program. Some fitness people are kind of snobs about it and think that because they can bench press a baby elephant and run 2 marathons in a day with a piano on their back, that anything made for us pathetic girly men is worthless. As for whether or not you should use Wii FIt U, that depends.
It's really a very light workout. There are a few activities that could make you legitimately break a sweat, and you can always increase the intensity with an aerobic step (they used to sell an attachment) or arm/leg weights. Most of the exercises are a good deal of fun (the cardio, dance, and balance ones. The strength training and Yoga are pretty dry) so you'll probably find it a bit easier to get into than a normal fitness regimen. But on the flip side, it's really light, especially in terms of cardio. You're not going to burn a lot of calories quickly.
I've been doing Wii Fit on and off, but seriously since about 6 months ago. So far, I've lost about 30 lbs. Naturally, I didn't lost all of that by doing the tree pose, but Wii Fit got me to the point where I felt comfortable enough to go to an actual gym. For me, the main purpose was just as an unintimidating way to get into the habit of exercise. I've been playing it a bit more since U came out, and I really like the Fit Meter. Mainly though, I use it on days when I don't or can't go to the gym, or when I'm watching TV, just so I'm doing something productive. It also happens to be a fairly fun game, so sometimes I'll just play it for the sake of playing it. The guys who work on Wii Fit are surprisingly clever with their minigames.

Well if the marketing did`t turn it into a miracle weightloss cure its weird that the people thought about it that way. I have honestly no idea how the wii fit marketing was I didn`t pay attention and rarely see commercials.
Aslong as its seen as what it is. A motivator to make people do something instead of sitting infront of the TV, but no replacement for serious physical activity. I am ok with it. But people sure as hell did not talk about it that way around here.
Wii Fit is actually fun and is doing pretty good for its genre.

A lot of games scored better than Knack n Ryse, so what's the significance here other than flamebait/troll?
It might be a better fitness game than Knack is as an action platformer and Ryse as a hack'n'slash. So what? If I wanna play games I'm sure Knack and Ryse are more fun to play and if I wanna work out I do it properly. What's your point?
Wii Fit U also has a higher metacritic than DR3 and Killzone Shadowfalll. Double fail.

WiiU Fitness doesn't get good scores because it's fun either. If you're trying to say WiiU Fitness is a more fun to play game than those two you're just outta your mind dude.
