For Nintendo's sake, hopefully it can boost the system to somewhere close to GameCube levels at least, but even that may be out of reach. 

October 2013 NPD is 50-59k for the Wii U versus 168k for the GameCube in October 2002. Not even half the GCN number right now even with a $50 price drop, Zelda WW HD + bundle, Wii Party U, Sonic: Lost World, Batman Arkham Origins, and Just Dance 2014 in the same month.

3D World byu itseelf probably won't do as good a sit should, because it's going up against the PS4/XB1, but next year this game will probably have better legs, and move more hardware.

For me it would be but only because I know MarioKart and smash are around the corner. X coming in 2014 also helps ALOT.

Now that you mention it, it could really help if Nintendo shows a montage of their 2014 games, that way 3D world shows that is a great game but is only the beggining.

Wonderful 101 sales are irrelevant due to no advertising and the niche appeal.
Same with Sonic Lost World.

3D World is a system seller, because of it's insanely positive reception and hardcore marketing.
I have seen more ad's for 3D World than I have for PS4 and Xbone combined.

Should push atleast 500,000 it's first week despite Xbone coming out the same day.
