Forums - Microsoft - Ryse Review Thread

Is anyone surprised by Ryse's score. I mean the evidence of a game lacking in substance was all too apparent to see. I know people wanted to say that the combat was like Batman or God of war, but it truly wasn't.... GOW for example has some very complex battles, and is all about using the right combination/weapon and timing. Which Ryse didn't have from the looks of things (press button and repeat).

What I don't understand is that Ryse's problems were very apparent to anyone with any knowledge of gaming. What surprises me is that Crytek didn't see these issues.

I love Rome/History... but also feel they didn't need to go and create a over the top fantasy story base on the time when the real life events were pretty awesome as is. Sometimes the gaming industry shocks me with it's poor decisions.

No mention of the Kotaku review?

I love how their reviews are so anti-metacritic.  Also Totilo is great at what he does.  Obvious the game isn't for everyone, but at least he seemed to get what they were going for.

Ryse the metacritic disaster. By the way, I was not expecting otherwise. Thanks God we have Forza5, less impressive than Forza 4 as a game in a whole/contents, but a solid launch game.

Yep, I've begun to notice the companies Microsoft can trust for quality are the companies they create themselves. 343 and Turn Ten are gems in the making.

I understand what first, second and third party is. It all depends on who owns the IP. Almost every game Ready at Dawn has made since inception has been a Sony exclusive save for a Wii game.  Think about it. ;)

Apparently you don't. You're confusing a 3rd party developer with a 2nd party game. Also, I know they made a Wii game. I just told you they did. I wouldn't doubt that you didn't even know that and assumed they just made Sony games. Actually, reading your last post again, I am right, you thought they only made PSP stuff. lol

Guerilla Games doesn't make duds, you just don't like them. I have no problem with that. I like their games, so your opinion isn't relevant there.

Where did I say GG makes duds (plural)? This whole back and forth goes better if you focus on things I actually say, not make believe arguments. I said GG's first Killzone for Sony was a critical and sales dud. As in one game. And that's not "my opinion", it's a fact. Either way, you of course either chose to skip over the point of the Guerrilla Games reference or just didn't see it and either way I don't care.

The deal they made with Crytek is a mirror image of the dud of a deal they had with Silicon Knights and if you cannot see it, I think you're blinding yourself. I fell for this when I was 360 only back when I joined this site in 2007 and I am not falling for it again, Allard. I am glad I could be the one to out it too.

Really? So Ryse actually began as a PSone title and was snatched up by MS as part of a planned trilogy? Or are you just saying MS bought the IP and paid them to make it? You know, kind of like how... every 2nd party game works. You're getting confused again. Maybe Google 1/2/3 party games and developers? Idk. Not going to respond again, but thanks for the entertainment.

I know that Ready at Dawn is third party. WTF to your third response (to the highest degree) Please don't respond as you have a heavy bias. I am just stating history and that the game is being made in tandem with a first party company and you want to blather on to make it look as bad as you can.

Truth be told. Things will get better in due time.

Best review thread EVA!!!. But I actually had some high hopes for Ryse since I'm a Dynasty Warriors fan. Maybe when Ryse goes in the bargain bin?

More like Fall. Am I doing it right guys?
