They are airing the crap out of these too apparently, they were all over last Sunday's NFL games, which is the biggest ticket TV draw in the US.

The $499.99 price point is a challenge for sure, but MS' marketing and solid launch lineup might just be able to make up for it. I think X1 is a great fusion of capturing what casual gamers/users like but marrying it with hardcore experiences. The marketing just seems more ... for the "normal adult" American/European, MS is really being smart with this angle.

They played some cool stuff with WWE tonight on RAW. If I find the plug, I'll link it.

That's literally pretty much all marketing is, lol. It's not 1996 anymore, "game trailer" TV spots don't do anything.

Even with the Wii U spots, Nintendo is fairly obviously targeting a certain image -- Wii U is the kids-choice console, who's job it is to convince their parents to buy them one.

I didn't see any of these last weekend, but I've seen a few others. Maybe that's the stuff that works in America, trying to sell an image above everything else. Sony's ads are pretty much the same. Nintendo, on the other hand, shows gameplay.

Anyway, I doubt that's going to prevent the One from going into freefall mode come the new year, because eventually the hype/image needs to be backed up by substance.

PS: The Jennifer ad was stupid.

Tad disingenuous and surprisingly naive

There are plenty of gameplay ads for the Xbox One, you must be avoiding them intentionally. But advertising is all about creating an image, a lifestyle and a sale.

As for Nintendo... havent seen a wiiu ad for months.   You are a little salty lately arent you... "freefall mode"? nice.

It seems that there are only hard core M$ fans that can buy into the idea that the XB1 will succeed in more ways than just one(gaming).  Too bad people aren't giving the whole idea of it a better chance.  Once the mainstream media gets a chance to really use the XB1 in a home environment, things could change quite quickly on the whole "it's not worth $499" line of thinking.

It is near the end of the end....

Those ads look hardcore.

The Jennifer ad is about as cringeworthy as the early Wii U ads, the Ryse ad though looks great.

I've seen a Dead Rising 3 ad that specifically says "Not actual gameplay" and the Forza 5 ad, while described as in-game footage, consisted of replays that showed the cars really close up.

There's just nothing to suggest that the One will keep momentum after the holiday season. This is a $500 system that is going up against a $400 substitute.

I think they probably will have to drop the price within short order to maintain sales momenteum, $500 is quite pricey, that said, Microsoft can afford to do it.

The interface IMO is going to be a big hit with casual adults, the voice command stuff and being able to seamlessly integrate live TV, internet, Skype chat, office NFL/college sports pools etc. is going to lead to a ton of "water cooler talk". These aren't just side features any more, I think this stuff is going to be fairly impressive to the average joe who's just walking in to seeing the console for the first time and just expecting a "regular game system".

PS4 is not neccessarily a substitute, my guess is Sony is going to scramble to see what MS has done with the interface and then try to copy it.

Have you even seen all the x1 ads?

A ton of them do feature gameplay.  Take, the invitation ad, for example.
