Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation 4 voice commands limited to a few basics, not supported by all third-party apps

Don't really care about the feature.. i'm not that lazy :P

All though some of the features on the x1 is unique, those type of things just aren't for me.

Sorry saying xbox play this, xbox do that, xbox volume up, xbox volume up, xbox volume down. Isn’t immersive in the slightest.

I have the original Kinect and, as you know, it's far from perfect.  I still love it, though.  Using the controller is definitely faster than saying "Xbox Next List" on Netflix or something but sooooooo many times, I've told it to rewind or pause or something while I was on the internet or washing dishes or something.  It's not ideal in every situation but, when the remote is on the other side of the room and you want the console to do something, it's a gift from heaven.

I'm not the type to wash dishes.. ermm. I mean I wont was dishes and watch a movie or tv show at the same time. So it really doesn’t mater. The only time I found voice controls to be nice was when I was driving down the high way lost, and I told my phone my address. So it could set the GPS. I don't think I’ll ever run in to a situation like that sitting on my couch. BTW I’ve used voice commands on my phone like 4 times total. And it's way better than what they are showing with the x1. Sometimes covenant, yes. Immersive, total opposite.

This is the very reason why MS packed Kinect with the box. Each day I hear about its functionality, I am really glad they did it since I get a true media box that is also a very powerful gaming machine.

yes because apps can't be included without a motion control camera and they're soooo difficult to use with a controller (literally requires less movement without camera).  Also I'm sure Eye functionality can be patched in if people really start complaining.  Most won't though because most have figured out how to use dpads by now.

You sound almost exactly like a certain Mr Ballmer when he dissed smartphones and tablets since normal phones and computers in so many ways were superior products :).

I always use Kinect with Netflix nowadays. Using the controller might in some ways be more effective but the very concept of not having to use anything but your voice and hands to control your media center is very attractive to alot of us looking for improved experiences.

I am not in the console industry to have the most effective time with my favourite console: in that case I would have gone with a computer and keyboard/mouse since they will always be technically beyond and above any controller.

Why do you think people get excited by tings like virtual reality and such is not because gaming becomes more "effective", but more immersive. That is what I also look for in my media experience, and Kinect offers just that.

virtual reality increases immersion within an environment.  Completely different.  Kinect requires more work to get around.  Not to mention we've already seen Kinect.  There's no wow factor when you're just making another thing that people already have.  You don't like my phrasing?  Fine.  How about it's more intuitive.  It's either use your voice and hands to control something or use just your hands and get there faster.  Besides like I said if it becomes a big demand (which it's clearly not right now) they can easily patch it in.
