#22: Terraria (PC)
I never expected to like this game that much. I bought it dirt cheap during a Steam sale thinking it was a 2D sidescroller and when I found out it was closer to MineCraft in 2D, I was pissed (because MineCraft is a total bore)! I gave it a chance and boy did it pay off! There's a greater focus on battling enemies in this game, there's tons of ore to mine, weapons to craft/find, plenty of items to better your mobility, there's bosses to fight, a hard mode to unlock. Then there was the 1.2 update that added more than a hundred enemies, new events, ores, weapons, armor, items, so much to do!
Also, the game likes to have some fun with items named like "Golden Shower" or enemies named "Mourning Wood".

22. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (19)
This is another solid platformer that at first seemed like it would be a mundane sequel to the original due to shared levels. However, even the retro levels and those from the first Galaxy seemed mostly new with the new objectives placed inside them. For the first time in a while Yoshi also came back to add his jumping variety to the platforming. In addition, new powerups, my favorite being Cloud Mario, are superior to the older ones. The prankster comets are less predictable and the staff ghosts give a fun goal to beat. The more consistent access to Luigi allows you to use the type of character you feel like on a given day. Then there are the green starts which improve greatly upon repeating the same levels with Luigi in the first game, though it almost seems like a waste that many people never see them because you need all of the original stars to unlock them. The increased difficulty in this game and rewards for actually progressing are a fresh of breath air from the direction Nintendo had been taking Mario games.
Primarily an RPG player but have interest in any game that will make me think.

We're getting to the good stuff now! Clue for 20: Many think it is the best PS3/360 gen game. I liked one of its expansion packs more than the actual full game. Expansion was sold as DLC, a standalone version, and a GOTY collection version. |
I was going to say Oblivion but the expansion pack isn't a standalone game, so Red Dead Redemption?
kupomogli said: Answers for these Hint for number 24. While it was later on released to atleast five more systems at retail the original game had three different versions. Not Pokemon like different, but not really minor either either. Here's another hint. It's part of a really popular RPG franchise. Final Fantasy 4. The original game had three different versions, the original Japanese version, the altered western version, and then the later released easy type in Japan. The five additional retail releases were PSX, Wonderswan, GBA, DS, and PSP. Hint for number 23. This game has a pirate, an Uno ripoff, cameos from another game in the series, and two world maps. Tales of Eternia or Tales of Destiny 2. Same game. Probably why we won't ever get the real Tales of Destiny 2. Hint for number 22. He went to the doctors and now has a G at the end of his name. A guy who uses an iron pipe like a sword. This rabbit isn't actually a rabbit. Coincidentally, there's also a pirate. SaGa Frontier. T260G, Gen, Rabbit, and Captain Hamilton are all characters in the game. Gen should have been the easiest as one of the required quests if your going for card magic has you talking to a monster that says he saw a guy using an iron pipe like a sword. -- Most of the remaining games in my list are RPGs. |
New hitnts.
Hint for number 21.
This game has everything but heart. Your powers will not combine, you will not summon Captain Planet.
24 - Super Mario 64 (Guessed by S.Peelman)
Super Mario 64 was the 2nd 3D Mario game I played and it was really different than the other game in enviroments. This game just did most of them right and the controlls was just very good. I couldn't have hoped for better. This game is just really 3D Platforming at its finest, where other games joins in too. It was just a very just a very fun game overall like most other games in my list. Not much to really talk about it.

#22 - SSX (Kudos to no-one for guessing this, but special star to Soulfly666 for having a go :P)
SSX was such a polarizing game for me its unreal. Because on the one hand, yeah, I hated that they added stupid gimmcky "deadly decent" events to the main gameplay that were so far removed from the core SSX experience it was untrue.
And yet, the core SSX experience is still in there, it's just hidden from you when you first play the game. After a few hours; a few trick events and a few races later you'll realise this is almost the best SSX has ever been.
You'll still fly high into the air pulling off ridiculous tricks that have no basis in reality; you'll still bomb down slopes at breakneck speeds trying to take down you rivals best times; you'll still have a fantastic soundtrack blasting at you as you collect geotags (aka snowflakes) while exploring the mountain.
Oh, and the multi-player mode is one of the best I've ever played. Autolog for the mountains. Ensures that I'll keep coming back to SSX far into the future.
P.S. At least the final boss made the deadly decents make a bit of sense.
