Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Why 3rd Parties neglect X1 launch games

Year of the X1 ?

2014 42 34.43%

2015 9 7.38%

Never 68 55.74%

Total:119

The difference between X1 and PS4 multiplat games will be greater during launch than afterwards.

Two simple reasons :

X1 architecture is "esram sauce" complex when PS4 is the first true dev-friendly Sony home console

X1 has an amazing 1st party launch line-up thus offering a lesser return on investment for 3rd parties

Prediction :

2014 : X1 will conquer mainstream channels and audience (thanks to superior UI and kinect)

2015 : 3rd devs will increase X1 budgets putting multiplat games on par or almost to PS4's

XBO 3rd party games are where they are in comparison to PS4 3rd party games because, that is the difference in power between the GPUs. It has been the case in every comparison between similar AMD GPUs for the last 2 years.

No amount of optimization is going to push a 1.3TF GPU to reach the level of a 1.84TF GPU, when they are the same exact tech. XBO games will be half the resolution of PS4 games all generation at the same frame rate. XBO may be able to add some extra effects at 720 with optimizations, but it will never have a game at 1080p parity with PS4.

XBO will be a great entertainment device, and very well could be the best selling platform, but it is not capable of matching PS4 graphically in 3rd party games.

ESRAM is only 32 MB on a 8GB system, not enough to make any sort of difference on next gen games, some of which are reported to be ~50GB. Xbox One hardware design is a blunder of unprecedented proportions. It exceeds even the PS3 blunder by a landslide.

The hardware difference is not the only thing participating in the performance drop of Xbone.

The native hypervisor running 3 OS at the same time might be a big actor there. It's probably to facilitate dev of UI and Kinect apps, but having 3 different OS running at the same time makes it harder/impossible to have full performance on the "Game only" OS.

Somehow people are repeating the conversation on technical difference mindlessly.

Focus on the question : 3rd part devs make poor ports when 1st party look really good. Makes sense at launch, not so much later.

Tech is the thing that really matters here though. No dev can optimize enough to make up 500GF's worth the difference in hardware. They are both fundamently GCN tech so anything learned to optimize the CU's on one console will automatically optimize the other. Both Sony and Microsoft will be thowing tons of research into building better techniques, and they will pass that on to 3rd parties to help make their platform better.

It is not just early ports that is making this happen. The technical difference is the major reason why this is happening and will continue to happen. Honestly it is not the end of the world. If someone likes XBO UI and ecosystem better that is great, but it will never match PS4 in performance just like PS4 will never match PC. I game on all platforms, and obviously perfer Sony's ecosystem. We all perfer one of them, but at the end of the day, good games are good games.

Yeah, launch titles... i hate to say it but you guys will just have to wait and see. The same exact words was spoken last gen...i guess if you say it often enough it will be true to you. are you all going to play on an 80 inch screen side by side while paused? Cause once the action is up and going I doubt you will notice anything outside of the game experience. But trying to reason is doomed to begin huh? Sad.

Just because you chose to quote a famous dead person does not mean that you are some type of intellect nor does it mean that the quote in question is correct.

Funny thing. 6 month ago, people said that there won't be much of a difference on start, but will be noticeable in the future)

But now you say, it't the other way around. lol

1st Party looking good, because it's not a 360 game. As with PS4 killzone, which is not PS3 game ported.

Great point.

No matter what is said, or how much proof there is, PS4 can not be more capable than the XBO. One way or another that fact must be undermined.

I think that 2015 the year for XBOX1 will be, because hopefully for MS they then have had 1 year where they could proof and regain their part and maybe Sony will have some screw-ups etc. But at this moment I have the feeling that Sony will rule 2013/2014.

Ps. On what do you base your opinion that the UI of MS is superior to others?
