Forums - Sony - Poll: Can the PS3 hit 100 million lifetime?

Will the PS3 break 100 million when all is said and done?

No 294 42.30%

Yes 229 32.95%

Yes, and it will beat the Wii too 172 24.75%

By the way, call me crazy but I predict we're gonna see one more major hardware revision. The PS2 got one in what, 2008?

March 31st 2016- 98million
March 31st 2017- 101million- Passes Wii by end of year
March 31st 2018-102.6million- Discontinued passes PS1 becomes best selling console of 7th Generation.

Passes Wii? Yes most likely but Wii Wont have less than 101mil, they already have 100.3mil. It'll sell between 102mil-104mil lifetime

Did they really? Wow, somehow I don't remember this at all, I can't imagine they could make that at this rate though.

They do have a GT6 bundle which should really help them this holiday.

They sold 16.5million PS2+PS3 last financial year. With 3.5million of that probably PS2. They had a much bigger Exclusive output this year than last.

Price cut new slim model, GT6 should get them close to that target.

PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

Yeah, I'm fairly confident they'll sell 1.3 million Wii's from Oct 26th to January 1st alone, and should be able to round out to 102.4 million by the time 2014 ends.

I think it can scrap 103 million without too much trouble.

It absolutely can, although it's slowing faster than I expected, it'll still have god legs.

God, I keep forgetting about GT6, that's right. They really need to start advertising and hyping that one more.

I think it has a very good chance. People forget that the PS3 is still relatively expensive. It has several years left of life as a cheap system for popular multiplatform games (Fifa, Madden, Call of Duty) and as a blu-ray player and media center. Sony systems are also popular in emerging markets, which tend to buy systems in larger numbers late in the generation when the price comes down. It will take a couple years for the PS4 and XB1 to really take off and dominate the market, and in the mean time the PS3 (as well as the 360) will benefit from people who want to play popular third party titles at an affordable price point.

I seem to remember Ken Kuturagi saying that the PS3 would sell 100 million units and it sounded crazy at the time.

That is a really interesting estimate, could you elaborate a little on how you think it'll get there?
