You aren´t supposed to play a game to get an artificial reward (those trophies/points do nothing, you can only show them as a substitute for ....let´s just call it eSchlong) Trophies can be a nice way to see everything a developer wants you to see. Playing games or rather not buying any games because the game doesn´t pat you on the back and says " You ARE A GOOD BOY!"...is pretty much against the reason video games exist. Do you like watching films or reading books? Does it bother you that there aren´t any flashing signs that say "Page 21...done !" and "reward" you with 10 thingamajigs for your bookworm account to show of ? |
you dont understand do you?
trophy hunters dont see trophies as a pat on the back. They see trophy hunting as a game itself with the biggest leaderboard ever. the pat on the back is when you have more trophies than your friend.

But trophy hunters (or at the very least the extreme ones) play games that they don´t enjoy (among others) to get their random number higher than the random number of guy-on-the-Internet#5541.
It can be an addiction for some, like gambling.
Not buying a game because you can´t hunt for a made up metric is wrong and I stand by that.
I don't like the trophy notifications, and am happy you can turn it off, and think it's pointless. Just like I think Team Fortress 2 items are in steam that I trade for real money to buy games.
However, Nintendo should put trophies in with the option. There's some people that enjoy it. There's some people that will buy extra games to just get trophies, it's simple and there's really no reason not to imo. It's a benefit with essentially no drawbacks. Just give the option to turn it off.
Beyond 2 Souls was garbage on every level but the trophies made the game goty. One thing I hate about games without trophies it makes me no feel sense of me doing without virtual trophy that only 5 people will notice or care about. I hate playing games because they fun that was so 6 gen. I need some to constantly praise me in life for doing a simply thing like "find random rock in hard place" or "play on harder difficult setting."
Don't take me serious. I'm just kidding... Well kinda

So you hated them in Xenoblade Chronicles and Super Smash Bros. Brawl? |
I hate Smash Bros as a whole, so I never play it. ;)
They were an irritation in Xenoblade, but thankfully the rest of the game was so amazing they were drowned out.

I'll also get a platinum if it's easy to do on a game I'm already playingthrough, like God of War, but not going to play games I have no interest in just to get the trophies, even if they are easy to acquire. |
I fully agree. I only get trophies for games I enjoy. I've never bought a game just for trophies either, because that's just plain ridiculous.
I have a question for the OP.
In the Wii era, Nintendo implemented achievements in certain titles (SSBB, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Xenoblade) and tied them to in-game rewards. Would having a required system-based achievement system like PS3's Trophies be an inherently superior approach?
